What ever happened to the FTR Fishing Reports for Pools 3 & 4? Haven’t seen any for awhile. You guys all hunting now?

Well…. the one word answer is “tournaments.” With big money tourneys running on pools 3 & 4 this weekend and again early October, people are being VERY quiet. I’m up on Mille Lacs through the end of the month so I’m available to contribute. Once the tourney season is over, things will return to normal.

I have been posting for Pool 3….I’ll put another one up now. I have been busy guiding, and have not been on the computer all that much…

I’ve been on the river for the last 10 days as well. Need one of those lap tops to carry along with me while I’m away for days at a time. I’ll have a report up by thursday night.

If you have ANY flexibility where you fish, I would head for the Croix right now…. particularly the stretch from Hudson to Prescott…. the bite is on and its strong…. the pool 3-pool 4 bite is as Dustin described….. and the pools are under heavy pressure right now as professional anglers are prefishing it for the big RCL tourney that will start Wednesday this week….. there are boats on virtually every wingdam… every section of rip rap.. every clam bed… every cut and back channel… well.. everywhere there might be fish…. this is a 200 boat tourney (and there will be more boats than that out total)…..
anyway… that would be MY advice… I spent yesterday on pool 3 and 4 fishing with Ripnlips prefishing for the tourney… it was fun…. but of course its not something I can talk about until AFTER the tourney…..

I was out on Pool 4, Friday 9/27. My gosh!! The back channel had as much traffic as 494 around Mpls at rush hour (well maybe not that much but it was bad). I also fished the “head of the lake” area and it too was full of RCL boats doing their pre-fishing.

I did not catch a fish over 15” nor did I see one caught, although there is an abundance of smaller fish. The RCL pre-fishing pressure must be getting to the fish. Tournament fisherman may a have tough time with all the competition if they plan to fish just the well-known spots.

Have you gone to the Fishing reports page on the header of the fishtheriver page? Last one tuck did was the 23rd. Good Luck!
