All of a sudden I have found myself moving from Minnesota to Wisconsin. My question is, do I have to rebuy my fishing and hunting license’? Right now I have Mn. resident and Wi. nonresident fishing license, wich dosn’t expire until 2003. Also my boat is registered in MN. for the next couple years. When I become an official Wi. resident sometime around November do I Have change my licensing status and cough up a bunch of extra money? The people at a license agent couldn’t answer my question and I haven’t got a hold of the D.N.R. yet. Thanks for any help.
Go Pack, and Brewers ( Yeah Right) There is going to be 15 acres of Vikings country stuck right in the middle of cheese ville. LOL Jason

First of all, congrats on your stake in God’s country! Don’t worry about the pride…………..we need all the purple we can spread across this cheese stained state and who’s the Brewers???

Anyway, unless there’s been a change in recent years you aren’t required/forced to change to resident status until you’ve been a physical resident for 6 months AND this is your primary state of residence. If you don’t begin residency until November, your licenses will all expire before you need to renew. Also, you have a time limit (I believe is the same 6 months) to get your drivers license and vehicle registration switched over so I’d push that task out at least 3-4 months just to aleviate the possibility of awkward circumstances and everything will jive as it would today.

    Again, welcome to WI!

    MONGO,

Before you leave Minnesota, you might want to consider checking into buying a MN Life Time license. If I understand this licensce correctly, it’s good for the rest of your life no matter where you might live. I know a WI license will cover the border waters but with a MN Life Time license you could fish Mille Lacs, etc. and never need to buy another fishing license. If you hunt, I’d definitely check into this. Nonresident hunting licenses in a lot of states are getting way too expensive. Hopefully Minnesota won’t do this but you never know what the legislature might decide.
