I was told the Tremp. landing was under renovation; can anyone tell me if it’s done or of any other landings?I have never been on the Mississippi before and am wondering if anyone can give me some pointers (not spots) on how to run the river. I have been told the channel is marked but not all the wing dams. Just want to know what other obstacles I need to worry about….(wakes)barges, party boats, what the channel is marked with,…. or anything out of the channel. Sorry, I’m used to running flowages and small rivers. Any info would be greatful.

Two weekends ago they were still not done with it but they had a temporary landing to use that worked fine and there seemed to be plenty of parking.
As far as the river goes…..The river is still on the high side and all that means is you are a LITTLE safer going places off the channel. The main channel is marked with Red and green bouys. Theres wing dams up and down and all around as well as closing dams which close off some back channels, yet most you can always get over. I would say to get your hands on a good map of whatever pool you choose to fish and keep it in your hands while navigating as it will show you most wing and closing dams. Just take it slow and easy if you don’t know where your going. If you fish little rivers the big one has all the same signs as far as watching the current for under water obstacles. Depending on your boat size wakes shouldn’t bother you too much except loaded barges pushing upstream can throw some larger rollers. You’ll be fine, and have fun.June 24, 2005 at 2:06 am #369817Thanks for the info.. All I was told was that I didn’t know what I was getting myself into and to bring a spare prop. I am planning to pick up a map when I stop to get bait. I’ll be sure to thread how I did if I catch anything sizable.
June 24, 2005 at 3:03 am #369827I drove by the Trempealeau landing tonight. I’m not sure what they’re doing, but it’s going s-l-o-w!
June 24, 2005 at 1:21 pm #369872GREEN BOUYS = WEST SIDE OF CHANNEL, RED = EAST SIDE . RUN BETWEEN THEM, WING DAMS ARE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CHANNEL, LOOKS FOR CHANGES IN WATER SURFACE FOR LOCATION OF THE WING DAMS, SHOULD BE OK TO GO OVER THEM WITH THIS HIGH WATER, BUT NORMAL WATER BE CAREFUL APPROACH FROM THE DOWN RIVER SIDE FIRST (YOU CAN ALLWAYS FLOAT OFF THAT WAY)
THERE IS ALOT OF MARSH AREA EAST OF THE RIVER THOSE CHANNELS SHOULD BE OK TO RUN IN WITH THIS HIGH WATER, AGAIN LOOK FOR CHANGES IN SURFACE FOR PROBLEM AREAS AND KEEP ONE EYE ON YOUR GRAPH.VERY GOOD FISHING IN THE MARSH AREAS LOOK FOR THE CLEANEST WATER YOU CAN FIND RIGHT NOW AND THE BASS & NORTHERNS ARE IN THE SLOP (MOSS BOSS’S, RUBBER RATS ECT) OR CLOSE TO IT.

Stopped by… no progress has been made in over a week…
What happens for Catfish days if the launch is not ready?
Mass congestion at the temporary ramp would be my guess.

With the river stage now down, my guess… no “rigs” could get in and out at the temp Tremp landing…
Thanks, Blue, that’s what we’ll do!
July 4, 2005 at 2:32 am #371329I noticed that the cement on the ramps is poured. They are way up in the air, so it looks like they’re going to raise the whole parking lot up to the ramps. That should take care of the flooding, but it will take a lot of fill.
jnabbenPosts: 40July 16, 2005 at 12:54 am #373285Have they made any progress on the ramp and lot the last few weeks? One other question. If you put in at the marina above the lock about how long does it take to get locked through?
July 16, 2005 at 1:00 am #373286They have not gotten real far as of Thursday. I heard they had one side open so I hauled the boat up there only to find it blocked off. I did use they temporary landing, but it is only 1 1/2 foot of water in the narrow cut to get to the main channel. Looks like I will not be going back there until they get the ramp done
jnabbenPosts: 40July 27, 2005 at 1:03 am #375023Hadn’t seen any reports on the ramp lately anyone have a progress report?
July 27, 2005 at 3:09 am #375037A lock is usually 15 minutes if there is no wait. If you sea barge in there its no telling how long it might take. Depends how far along they are.
July 28, 2005 at 1:57 am #375173Typical union workers are working on the ramp. Might just as well plan on MAYBE getting to use the ramp sometime this Fall
July 28, 2005 at 12:43 pm #375210I drove by on Tuesday night, and the ramp was open. Three boats can now land at the same time! It sure did take a long time for work to get done!
