My wife (Patty) and I took a trip up to Blackhawk park on pool 9 Monday. I didn’t get any fishing done Monday or Tuesday because of motor problems. I found out late Tuesday that a linkage came off of one of my carbs. Wed morning I got down to Desoto Bay. I tried casting a 1/16 Panther Martin to shore in 6 or 7 feet and caught nothing. Then using my 7 foot ultra light with 4# Vanish Transition line and the 1/16 Panther Martin I started trolling. I caught 4 nice Crappie and then a 25 inch Northern in 10 feet of water trolling slow with my electric. Then the wind picked up so I headed back to the motor home. When the wind died down I went back down and cast a bit with a #7 shad color shad rap out in the river by the Bay. I caught a couple 2# + stripers then trolled with my bow mount for a bit. I then caught a 27 ½ inch Walleye on the same Rap and 20# Power Pro. I took it up and had my Patty photo it then released it. Patty has the pic on her camera yet.

The two rods I was using came from Hooked On Fishing. Both where made from St Croix Avid blanks. An AS70ULF spinning and an AC69MLXF bait cast blank. They cast well and handle big fish great.

Great report Jim. Be sure to share that pic of your big ‘eye when the wife gets that film developed.

I just got back from a week a Blackhawk. The fishing was great but the catching left a lot to be desired. Lots of junk floating. I saw one 8 1/2 lb. 28 inch plus walleye caught trolling Minnesota Slough above the Upper Iowa, but my attempts netted just weeds. The crappie are still in DeSoto Bay but the numbers are not there. The catfish are on the rocks getting ready to spawn. Caught both flathead and channel on minnows while crappie fishing. The bass are bedding as well. A few small northerns thought they were King Kong, but that’s about it for me this trip. Good luck to whoever gets out. I’m locked down for a plant turnaround until August 23rd.
