Willow cat bait legal again

Walleye anglers who miss having willow cat minnows in their bait buckets are rejoicing in a new law that makes the bait legal again.
Gov. Tim Pawlenty signed a bill Friday that adds willow cats to the state’s list of legal bait. Last spring, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources determined that existing law didn’t allow the bait.
Willow cats are small members of the catfish family and they typically go for about $8 a dozen
Len Kaczorowski, who works at West End Bait in Winona, said he was happy to see an end to the yearlong hiatus.
“We’re going to have to try and get the customers we had before,” he said. “The guys won’t have to travel to Wisconsin to get them.”
