Does anyone know more about this $700 5hp motor that will supposedly be sold through stores like Home Depot and Wall Mart this September?

Nope never knew about them. I have a question about them and other motors
for that mater. On this motor it says recomended transom height 15 in.
Does that mean if you put it on a boat with 20 inch transom it may not get cooling.
What boat comes with a 15 inch transom? Just wondering .Steve

I have heard comments about the prototype on other web sites. This is the first time I have seen a picture of the motor.

The specs don’t list where the exhaust ports. From looking at the picture, it does not look like there is enough room to port the exhaust down through the prop. (Like most quality motors) If the exhaust ports above water, it will sound and smell like your B&S lawn mower! Not good for a kicker application.

However, for $700 bucks it looks like a great motor for that 14 footer at the cabin.

I need to see one of these in action.

It looks to be air cooled like the lawn mowers too!

How about a update. Did anyone every purchase one of these motors? How did it work out. I am considering one in the near future.

For those considering a Briggs and Stratton motor, please don’t. They are as noisy as an old 50HP and run like a 3HP. I live on the Milwaukee River, just north of Milwaukee and a few guys have bought these motors. In my limited expereince you would be better of with a used motor from any of the long term manufacturers.

There’s a few manufacturers that make shallow drive – air cooled outboards. They have a very specific purpose. Beyond being able to access skinny water they have some serious drawbacks. The most major being the IN-CRED-IBLE noise level at WOT.
