hey just wanted to inform those who use lilydale that someone decided to try to throw a rock through my windshield last friday night. I reported it to St.Paul police who stated alot of vandalism happens down there. remember dont keep anything of value to you or thieves in your vehicle. they didnt break into my truck but left a nice surprise and an increase to my rates will be expected!

Sorry to here that sir! I use that landing when I go on pool 2 (real close to my house) and I have been nervous about the characters you see going in and out of the landing area. What really stinks is it is such a nice landing.

    sealegs,

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I have zero time for people that do this to others. I have no idea what I would do if I caught some one “in the act”.
Lord only knows I have had my share of issues down by the river over the years as John mentioned. Unfortunately there are people like this no matter where you go.
My Ranger trailer wheels used to have chrome valve stem caps. I went through 3 sets because people kept stealing them. Finally I stopped replacing them….

That’s one thing that pisses me off about criminals. If you are going to break into vehicles, at least do it right. Get one of those door-unlocker-thing-a-ma-jigs and bring some tools. Freaking idiots cause $500 in damage to steal a $10 pair of sunglasses off the dash. Or rip the dash off to steal a stereo when they could unscrew 2 nuts and drop the dam thing on the floor.

Guess it’s just the “If you are going to do a job, do it right” in me….Thanks mom!

If these guys had any smarts Jon they would be doing this stuff in the first place. Just to show you this on day last summer I locked the doors on the truck and left the window down at lilydale. Went fishing for 8 hrs and came back to find everything just fine. Figured they must of found the doors locked and could not figure out how to break the window with it down so they left.
These guys should just stick to trolling in the parking lot and give up on breaking into the cars.

I’m lucky. No problems for me at any pool 2 ramp. Maybe that’s because I happen to “be that guy with the pit bull and 9mm hanging on his hip”…… Don’t know for sure.

Perhaps if all of us fishermen were visibly armed there would be a lot less problems at those ramps!

I’ve also been very lucky down there. I honestly feel safer lauching under the 77 bridge and making the 4 mile drive downstream, though.

That would be kind of cool, though, to get a small group of IDA members, and have a stake-out down there. I just polished off my Gaff last night….

I’ve never had a problem at 494 or Hidden Falls (knock on wood), and I almost never come off the water before dark. Then again, I fish the river most often when it’s cold out and the lazy thieves probably don’t want to brave the weather!!

I do avoid the Lilydale ramp…

Locks just keep honest people honest. A thief will get in anyway they can.

That ramp has always made me nervous. I’m going to avoid it.
Even Hidden Falls, as nice as the park is, has me on alert. Both too close and accessible by bad big city elements. Free big-city parks have always been like that everyhere.

I know it may be a bit out of the way for most, but Willies Hidden Harbor in SPP is mighty fine and public. This is where I go out of when I fish Pool 2 for cats.

FWIW, I now live in SE Iowa (lived in MN for almost thirty years, including a year in Mpls), and there is some good night-fishing for flatheads on the rivers around here. Problem is, no one likes launching from the landings out in the country, because if you leave your truck and trailer sitting unguarded after dark in the middle of nowhere, there is a real good chance it will be vandalized. Thieves and low-lives can be found anywhere.

I have to agree with Suzuki on Hidden Falls, although I feel more comfortable there now than Lillydale. There just seems to be alot of ‘wandering eyes’ running around each time I’ve been there…
