I have the hot spots map for pool 4 and was wondering if there is some sort of numbering system for the wing dams?? Is there any easy way to identify too much current, not enough, just right or is this a complete [censored] shoot that I’ll have to figure out on my own??? Thanks for the info!!

Nope, no numbering system. I believe I ran across some DNR info awhile back that stated there was 160 wingdams south of Lake Pepin and north of the L&D at Alma. That’s a bunch of dams! Many silted in a long time back so there aren’t QUITE that many to fish…. but there’s a lot of ground to cover. The best way to determine correct water flow on a dam is through experience but, generally speaking now, if you can’t fish effectively with a 1/4 -1/2 ounce jig/bait you’ve likely got too much current on the dam. Size of your bait and depth on a dam are certainly factors with this so its certainly not a hard and fast rule….. I’ve caught fish on dams with a heck of a lot more current than I EVER thought they’d be willing to tolerate.

    Hope this helps bud.
