That is the segment they ran on channel 5 news up here in the TC. Nasty!

Guess I’d better start drawing up plans for some kind of deflector shield to put on my boat.

Do you all suppose we’ll get some shared support from the recreational boaters on this issue??? For the first time I can recall, they are going to have to be equally concerned about what fish is in the water!

I can see my fishing arsenal growing, St. Croix rods…Check! Crawlers….Check! Crank baits….Check! 12 gauge with 8 shot, and a full choke…Check! Ok! Let’s go fishing. Maybe Polaris and Sea Doo will offer models with anti-aircraft options??

Lets just hope they don’t make it up here and starve our native fish to death.

I was reading in the fishing section of the Star Tribune (online) for an article regarding the “Probable Cause” issue and decided to scroll through some of the other topics………………

……………….only to find that the dreaded Asian Carp, hoping to be prevented from entering Lake Michigan, has been spotted IN Lake Erie. It looked doubtful enough that they could keep them from coming in through the Illinois River………….how are they going to stop them from coming in from Erie??? And one river system will lead to another river system………they’re already in the Mississippi…………..I don’t know what they’re going to do!!! I have a feeling in the coming years lakes are going to get a little more popular!

its hard… no make that impossible to stop a compatible species from occupying available habitat once they have breached the main geographical barriers (ie… oceans)…. its not a question of IF… but only WHEN…. sooner or later they WILL penetrate and occupy all compatible habitat… INCLUDING lakes…..

Well, that may be true RiverEyes, but I hope they knock themselves silly on the bottom of the ice all winter!

It happend to us. Rob and I were pre fishing for the Masters championship back in 1995 on the Mississippi at Quincy,Il. Now this was before anyone really new about these carp. We were going to move to another spot I started the big motor and when it fired up this fish came flying over the transome and landed in the splash well jumped and floped around “like major spastic” and then jumped back into the water. We just looked at each other and said nobody is going to believe this!
Well, two days later we are fishing the Pro-Am event and we are telling are Am what happend. He just kind of looked at us as if to say I don’t know what you guys were somking but it must have been good stuff! Just a few minutes later I started up the big motor put it in gear and just like the time before this silver fish came flying over the transome!!! The Am jumped up and away from the this spastic fish and says OK OK I believe I believe!!!!!
Rob and I were trying to tell others what these fish looked like and that we had never seen fish like this before——Now we have proof! THANKS fisfsqrz——–Later V

If these are true filter feeders, I wonder what will happen in winter when the river clears out, and there is not much to eat? I can however see where the backwaters would be a buffet of huge proportions for them! That could be devastating!
