First off, a huge FTR “THANK YOU” to Mary Divine who wrote the article about the Gate on the Croix. We could not have got this far so fast without you!

The Good News. The Minnesota DNR has sent a letter to the Harbor Association. aka Bill Sweasy and Henry Buffalo ordering them to remove the gate immediately!

This action was taken after the DNR recieved “Hundreds” of complaints about the gate. A big thanks from me to all who took time to send a note or make a call.

Let’s all hope that Mr Sweasy and Buffalo do not appeal this order. If they do, we will again need to come together and fight them.

    Jon Jordan.

The world is run by those who show up, and when St. Croix River users showed up at the DNR with their complaints about Mr. Sweasy’s gate, they gave the Red Wing Shoes Gate the boot! Watch this one very carefully, though. These kind of people think they can buy/threaten/sue their way out of anything and I’d be surprised if they let this drop. My Red Wing Shoes purchase plans are still on hold…

    Catfish John,

Thanks for doing your part. I know you made a big difference with the notes you sent.

You are wright, however….. Hope this is not the first battle in a long drawn out war.

I guess we will need to stay tuned.

Also, keep an eye on tomorrow’s paper. There may be a follow story on this topic.

Pat yourself on the back John! You’ve displayed the heart of a champion and I certainly commend your leadership in this campaign! What I did was easy so it doesn’t matter if this is just the beginning or not, if you need a voice, I’ve certainly been blessed with one that I will gladly make available to you until this thing is over with for good. See at the GTG!

Very well done folks! Thank you Mary Divine for your persistence on the matter as well! It was nice to see the facts as they are, and not skewed to favor one position over the other. Jon J., thank you very much! You were the lightning rod for an issue that had the potential to become a powder keg. You did well my friend! I owe you a beer Saturday! We all do!

I’m thrilled, a little suprised, and holding my breath for the next round. Although, I think the possible ramifications at Red Wing Shoes might make them think long and hard about another round.

Jon, you did great work on this. I know you’ll say “many people writing is what did it”. But the fact is someone needed to spearhead this, and you did that exceedingly well!

Also I can not say how impressed I am by James and Steve. I doubt we’ll be seeing adds for Red Wing’s on the site, or in the Outlet Store. You both are to be applauded for never asking that your site not be used in this process.

    Thanks!

I too thank you Jon J.

    Way to go Bud!!!

It does bother me that it said in the article they received 50, over fifty calls and E-mails about this at the DNR.

What bothers me is we as anglers and outdoors enthusiasts are still to passive as a group. I would of hoped a larger number (only 50?) would of responded to this situation. We had enough participation to turn some heads this time, but as a group we shouldn’t be so passive. We need to let our representatives know we are a force out there to be paid attention to when we don’t agree with things going on in this (our) world. We all have the internet, we should use it. Having written to my representative a few times (quite a few) they do respond back as to why they make the decisions they do and most of the time its what their constituents wanted, not always but most of the time.

Write them, get to know them, they are suppose to support us. Otherwise vote them out the next election and support someone who agrees with your views, thats what the systems for.

Please do not construe this as a soapbox rant, it is important to get involved and be heard!

I for one would love to see Red Wing shoes wdvertise on the site. I think Mr.’s Sweasy and Buffalo know who we are now. We are their customers in a round about way. Let them show us that they made an (Honest?) mistake, and apologize for what happened. Or, continue to ignore the buying public, and face the ramifications of the buying or non-buying folks who pay for their boats and marinas. Meanwhile, I will be enjoying my Goretex Rocky’s.

    Hooks,

The article says “Over 50”. So 500 or 1000 is over 50!! Keep in mind that is the reported number from the DNR who may want to downplay this issue. They got their undies in a bungle if you know what I mean?

On the other hand, 50 could very well be the valid responses. When writing to any state agency or government rep, it is Critical to include your full name, your home address and telephone number. Otherwise, your note goes right in the crapper. I am certain of one thing, this was one hot issue for a few days over at the DNR! Went right up the flagpole to Garbers office.

    Yeah, your right Jon.

I guess I was on my soap box, just a little. LOL
But it does peave me how passive as a group sportsman can be.

Again good job on this. My cooler will be open for you this weekend. We’ll share a few cold ones.

Oh oh, not good…. Hook, my suggestion to you is….Bring a decoy cooler with Blatz or Schlitz, or PBR. Your only hope is Big D getting trashed, finding the decoy, and not realize what he is drinking. He is NOT DRIVING, nor should anyone who has been drinkin’. (Bring Designated drivers, or stay over if anyone plans to drink.)
