I used this line for the first time yesterday and very unhappy with it.It seems to have very little knot strength, lost 2 moss boss while setting the hook with 12 pound test, checked it myself and could break it with my hand.Just wondering if anyone else had this problem with this stuff or maybe i got a bad batch of line? What kind were you using? If it felt dry and kind of abrasive it might be old or been exposed to too much heat. If thats not the case and the line is breaking at the knot use a Trilene Knot or Palomar knot. They are the only knots that are secure with supermono or dyneema(Fireline). Clinch knots won’t hold.

Tom, I was using spiderline xxx supermono, the line was in good shape.I used 2 different knots the palomar and the clinch when I hand tested each knot both broke rather easy they did not slip.Back a couple of months spider wire offered a free spool through the mail this is how I got it. If it is the same as what is in the stores………..i’m not sold. eyenutz

    Eyenutz,

My son and I did an experiment for his science fair project with fishing lines and their specific properties. I had the same stuff delivered to me through the mail and used it as a comparison sample. You’re correct in your discovery…………..it’s not anything super. It had a break off similar to the Trilene XL brand, which isn’t noted for it’s high tensile strength. In multiple tests, the highest measured strength of the XL was 11.8 pounds of pressure and the Super XXX broke between 10.6 and 12.3 pounds and of 7 tests, only one broke the strand itself. 6 of the 7 broke at the knot. My recommendation? If you have to use it, try panfishing with an ultralite…………..it should be able to withstand that application. Otherwise, I wouldn’t buy it either.

A good tough mono was the Trilene XT. It tested head and shoulders above the other mono lines for strength.

Oh yeah, that new Sensation stuff isn’t that great either, in case you’re contemplating.

Sheepie opps Stillakid did you try any of the power pro. I am tyrying the 20lb test 6lb diameter and its worked good for me. But I’m stilla rookie compared to alot of people on line here. Has anybody else tried it? And what did you think?

I didn’t have the power pro available at the time of my son’s project. I do use it now in 10/2, 20/6, and 50/12. So far, so good. No fray, no breakage, no extra wear and tear noticed on the rod or reel. So far, it has my business! However, I’ll still use Fireline for the other strengths and diameters not offered by Power Pro. It too has been pretty good to me so that’s my 2nd superline choice.

Hey Sheepkid the next time you do an experiment for “tough mono” compare MAXIMA CHAMELEON to XT. I know witch one I would bet on!——Seaa ya at the get together—-V

Until someone pays me to buy up a sample of every brand out there, I’ll just take your word for it .
I only used brands accessible from the local retailers that I frequent, and already had on hand. I didn’t go out and buy anything for his project so those results are not absolute but a good indicator to eyenutz that his opinion could be shared by many………..that’s all. If you happen to have any Maxima to spare, I’ll do the comparison for you just so you can see the results. Just an offer for curiosity sake!
