H20 , I plan on attending the Get together in August. My question is if the last posting about the kill tournament is correct then the death rate is high in August also> Do you plan on doing catch and then release for the tournament and how many if so, thanks for your time FF

FISHINFOOL & All,
I assisted James and the FTR Staff in obtaining the permit. The permit was necessary because we are expecting more than 30 participants. Permits are issued as Catch and release or Catch and keep. Because the tournament is in August, the permit was issued as Catch and Keep.
Take a look at the Rules Document I have put together to satisfy the DNR requirements. If anyone has any further questions, please post.
Fish The River Open
Overview
Interpretation of these rules shall be left exclusively to the tournament director. Failure to comply with any rule may result in disqualification. The decision of the tournament director shall be final in all matters. Contestants and members also agree that no litigation against “Fish The River Staff” may take place. All rules have “loopholes”. In the interest of good sportsmanship, contestants are reminded that the ‘spirit of the rule’ will prevail in all judgment cases.
This is a catch and keep tournament. Only one fish may be brought to the scale. You may however posses a legal limit of fish aboard your boat.PARTICIPANTS & ELIGIBILITY
Participation is open to the public. Tournament officials reserve the right to deny participation for any reason. Mainly an unsafe boat or no safety equipment aboard, or drunkenness.AGE LIMITS
Any person 18 years or under must be a team partner with a parent or legal guardian.ENTRY FEE
Zero. The contest is free and open to the public.CHECK-IN
Please check in with one of the FTR tournament staff the morning of the contest.BOAT INSPECTION
No boat inspection. Please have all required navigational and safety equipment aboard before launching your boat. Including one wearable life jacket for each person aboard and one throwable device.SAFETY
Safe boating must be observed at all times. Each contestant should wear a Coast Guard approved personal flotation device at all times when the combustion engine is operating above idle speed.WEIGH-IN, CHECK-IN
Teams must check in by the official check-in time to qualify for the free prizes. Boats within line of sight and off plane at the official time are considered on time. You may check in early.SPORTSMANSHIP
All contestants are expected to follow high standards of sportsmanship, courtesy, safety and conservation. Drunkenness at any official tournament activity will be considered a violation of the rules.TACKLE AND EQUIPMENT
Live bait and artificial lures may be used. Trolling as a method of fishing is permitted. All fish must be caught live and in a conventional manner. Contestants must possess applicable state fishing licenses.BOAT AND MOTOR
Each boat must have all state and federal safety equipment. Each boat must have properly aerated or recirculating live well space to maintain a live catch. All outboard motors used during official tournament hours must not exceed the horsepower limitations as indicated on the manufacturer’s rating plate affixed to the boat.PERMITTED FISHING LOCATIONS
Contestants may fish anywhere on the tournament waters accessible by boat except areas designated OFF LIMITS by the tournament director or marked on the water. In case of an emergency/disabled boat, at least one partner may return (by boat) with the catch by the official check-in time. Above all, the safety of the competitors is priority.OFF LIMITS
When water is put off limits, all members must abide by the off limits period. Off limits means not on the water. Any fishing, boating, canoeing or any kind of water travel is forbidden on the off limits waters.WEATHER CONDITIONS
Tournament officials will only begin tournaments during acceptable and usual weather conditions. It is solely the responsibility of the contestants to be aware of changing weather conditions. If conditions change during tournament hours to unsafe conditions, the contestants are required to seek safe shelter until the weather conditions pass. Remember, you may weigh in early.BAG LIMITS
Tournament bag limits will be One fish per team member with a minimum length of 15 inches. State size and bag limits will always take precedence over tournament rules. Species that will be weighed are walleyes, sauger and saugeyes. Scoring will be in pounds/ounces. Culling of fish is not legal. Short fish will not be weighed, but returned to the water immediately. This is a Catch and Keep Tournament. Each angler will weigh one fish.TIES
In case of a tie, positions shall be resolved by a coin toss.LIABILITY
“Fish The River” Staff, it’s officers and employees, promoters, tournament directors, sponsors and organizations assisting in the tournament operation, their agencies, etc., are not responsible for deaths, injuries, damages, liability, theft, fire, orJuly 9, 2001 at 1:32 pm #231134One more thing I should mention. Officially, this is a catch and keep contest. But, no one will be stopping you from returing to the main channel of the river and releaseing a healthy, uninjured fish. Just DON”T do it in the harbor at Colville Park. The last thing we want is a bunch of dead fish floating around!!
I’m sure there will be people there whould would gladly take possession of any unwanted or dead fish.
We must keep everyone happy. DNR, Spectators, Fellow fishermen, Fellow boaters.

July 9, 2001 at 3:45 pm #231143Jon,
What about us poor saps that don’t have a live well in the boat? Any ideas?
July 9, 2001 at 4:09 pm #231145That’s a tough one…… Here is my first thought.
Let’s say you get “A Good One” in the boat early. (One that you would prefer to see swim away) You may weigh in anytime. I’d say get that fish to the scale ASAP.
But remember, each participant may only bring one fish to the scale. So after you weigh in, your done.
A large cooler with water added frequently may keep a fish alive long enough to be safely released.

July 9, 2001 at 4:29 pm #231150I’ll put my meager creative skills to work and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the quick post!
July 9, 2001 at 9:31 pm #231202Stillakid, In my old boat, I did not have a livewell, so made one outa plywood, painted real well and just add fresh water so often. I have seen folks use large coolers and use those portable aerators. Even a portable pump will work to pump water. You are an ole riverrat……you’ll figger it out….
W.July 9, 2001 at 10:36 pm #231208I was hoping that we could have had a tourney that was more of a multi species….. I love to catfish as much, even more than walleye fishing plus they are real hardy fish that WILL NOT die….. it’s to bad you fellas didn’t include them in a august tournament instead of a walleyes…… just a thought
July 9, 2001 at 11:06 pm #231209Mavzer
When you’re right, you’re right. This thing should be a mulit-species tourney. We could add any category we’d like I’m assuming. I’ll dig into this a bit and see what we can do.
Any ideas for the new categories? Cats? Bass? Largest roughfish? (Don’t jump on me CarpChaser… no disrespect meant…LOL)
Ideas are welcome.

http://www.movingwaters.netJuly 10, 2001 at 1:21 am #231214maybe each forum should have its own seperate contest (well you know bass, cats, walleyes,)…. then have an overall largest fish catagory which would cover anything else that happens along (general?)……
July 10, 2001 at 1:40 am #231216good idea River eyes!!! I could see a species like cat’s, bass, walleye, and general… (roughfish)….. carp are great fun to catch…

<<<Life is Fishing, the rest is just details!>>>July 10, 2001 at 11:05 pm #231294Yeah, the old dog whipper and myself have teamed up, regardless of the livewell situation. There’s a lot of story behind it but the shorter version is I conned him into it by slapping him around a little! :O) LOL! Basically, neither of us were originally able to make the event but when my calendar opened up, I dared him to open his and whallah! The duo of dufus was born! We did the “compatability test” last Sunday where Dman caught his 28″ dandy and we’re both alive to razz each other about it so I think the arrangement is set in stone. Now, does that mean you’ll put down your rods and come watch the art of “2 Dufus Fishing”? LOL! It’ll be good to meet you there and I’m sure we’ll all have a good time with each other! READY FOR SOME FUN?????
July 10, 2001 at 11:58 pm #231298I am always ready for fun! It will be good to meet you guys too, and everyone else on the board! If you have a proplem with live well space you can keep your big fish in my live well, always willing to help out a fellow fisherman. LOL!!!!!!!!
Steve
<<<Life is Fishing, the rest is just details!>>>July 11, 2001 at 12:06 am #231299Make sure you bring my big ‘un back after the weigh in so we can have a tie! LOL! “No, really guys, “the kid” just wants to fish……………that’s what he said! Just being here was enough so I could have his 15 pounder for myself! What a guy eh?” LOL!

<<<Life is Fishing, the rest is just details!>>>July 11, 2001 at 12:22 pm #231314yeah I hear ya…. but the stillaPUP is just a bit smarter than the average pup.. well maybe smart is NOT the right word? cunning? coniving?… hmmmm corny?… I dunno…. something like that……

July 11, 2001 at 4:23 pm #231351I prefer to think of myself as an “opportunist”. You made me look downstream for any hazards, (pretending to be setting up a new lure) when you delibrately steered the troller into my line so’s I wouldn’t show you up during your “off moment(s)”. Now, once is one thing but you did it to me twice so I had to express what I was missing out on, and grabbed that lip to demonstrate what I should be doing! Next thing I knew you were offering your boat! So, like Fonzy always did with Ralph Malph, I let you go. I figured, if you were offering, I wasn’t imposing! LOL! What an opportunity! Thanks Mr. Steamtrousers, I’ll make ya proud!
For all those unaware………………..this is textbook “bonding” between a pup and his…………………….tolerator! Yeah, that’s the ticket!
