Mounting rod holders on a Lund 1675

I picked up a Lund 1675 Explorer this spring and recently bought some Scotty rod holders to mount inside. One problem… when the base mount sits flush against the inside wall of the boat, there isn’t enough room for the axle of the rod holder to slide down into the base — the lip of the boat wall sticks out just enough that I can’t snap the rod holder down into place. It looks like I would need to use a piece of hard plastic or wood as a “spacer” to get the base mount out away from the wall of the boat slightly in order for the rod holder to comfortably fit down and lock into place. Anyone have any suggestions how to deal with this? Thanks.

I have a 1650 angler..Yes I used little wood blocks. I could not find plastic ones that were thick enough. Works just fine.

Did you drill holes through the side of your boat (or where the rivets were) to mount the rod holders?

Also, what motor did you put on the 1675 Explorer as I am considering the same boat.

Big E – I work at a plastic injection molding company. If you tell how big & thick of plastic you need, I will see if we have some old parts that are close. You can then cut & drill them to size.

I haven’t drilled any holes yet – I want to get everything in order first before I start drilling.

    FYI – I put a 60hp 4-stroke tiller on my Explorer. I like it.

If you are looking for a plastic block, consider a plastic cutting board. If you can cut that with a router or roto zip, you’ll have a nice clean edge, so it should look pretty good.

I used regular faucet washers for the spacing on my 1660 Pro-V. No problems since I put them on in ’97.

I picked up a four cast aluminum flush mount oar lock bases for my 1650 Lund Rebel – bolted them in place – two on each side. Then I bought the separate Scotty ‘oar lock’ kit (removable bracket and stainless steel bolt/nut to go thru the oar lock) – I really like this setup – quick to put the rod holder bases in and out and they aren’t in the way when the cover is on the boat.
