I was thinking of getting a large heavy rod/reel combo for not a lot of money. I had read a couple posts in the catfish forum that the Cabela’s King Kats worked fine,($39). I am first intrested in using it for tossing large jerks for Northern pike this spring, and secondly I had my eye on a couple of holes last summer that may have had some flats lounging in em’. First off, would this pole work good for Pike fishing, and second of all what length rod would be best to fit both types of fishing 7′, 8′? How about a line recomendation?
    thanks in advance

for northern, i’d say at least a 7′ med/ heavy.
Line should be at least 25 lb.mono. But 65 lb. braided would probally be the best.

The 25 lbs mono won’t do you much good for flats..if there’s any wood cover around…I’d go with the 65 lb braid.

We’ll be waiting for the pictures!

I got the KK for bottom fishing. I was also thinking of using it to throw out pike lures this year too. Its a good pole, hasnt let me down yet, except for line snaps.

O.K. 65lb braided it is. What about rod length? Is there an advantage with going to an 8′ over a 7′ or is it mostly just personal preference. Helped the father-in-law commercial fishing this past weekend, so now I better go to Cabela’s That should make my back feel better.
