Just got back yesterday from Mille Lacs–rain/blue bird skies, wind—–it don’t matter the fish just plain are on the bite. About every presentation working now. Heck troll the kitchen sink and you might get one!!!! Also caught more slots rigging the rocks than I have doing anything else. Weekdays I have been able to claim reefs and flats to myself as boat traffic is light—but heavy on the flats that the baitshops said are hot. Find the hot tips on where to go then don’t go there. Weekends—that might seem like opener all over again. Unbelievable fishing though—How long can it last?????

    james,
you definitely should hit mille lacs. i was up this past weekend – late saturday afternoon till about 5 on sunday. i went out of agate bay, so i was unfamiliar with that part of the late – but managed to put 35 walleye into the boat..the biggest 25.5 and 24.5.
it was a blast trying to figure out what would not work. i ended up using jigs mainly, due to the big rollers and found almost any color, any style was working. also got some slip bobbering at nite.

i might be up again next weekend, let me know if you think you’ll be up.

Glad I went to Pepin on Saturday. Might have been the last chance to fish it before mid July! Got some nice eyes and a couple of saugers in 7 feet of really dirty water near Maiden Rock. Shad colored Raps. Nothing else worked very well.

At least you can navigate most of the different variations of the Wisconsin Channel right now. I did some exploring and found all sorts of places where I should have gotten beached and stuck. Lots of good places that hold fish, but I wanted to get wind-blown and burned, so I just kept going. And got wind-blown and burned.

Hey Todd, are you going up the week of the 4th. I’m off that whole week
and was wondering where I should go. Do you think that the Big Pond would
be very busy Mon 1st—Wed 3rd. The worst part of the going up there is
trailering through the cities. Hate that traffic. Steve

    leinieman,
i would jump to the ftl mille lacs board and check with them. this was my 1st time up this year. my guess is that it should be okay then, as that is the middle of the week.
i have stayed at pikes point on the west, scenic bay in isle and this past weekend at agate bay – all good facilities. sounds like the hotter bite in in the southeast and the mud on the west sounds like it is starting to pick up.

    good luck.
