My daughter and her 2 sons have moved back to my home in Minnesota after a divorce. They moved from Michigan and have been living with us since about Feb. 1. My grandson turned 3 last week and one of his presents is a fishing trip with Papa. Can he legally fish on Minn. rivers and lakes with me? Can he keep his fish? His mother has a Minn. driver’s licence listing my address as her home.

Any help would be appreciated as I don’t want to get in trouble his first time out.

    Thanks,

    Gene

Yes he can fish in the state and Iowa and I think any other state but in MN you don’t have to have a license untile he is 16. I hope he catches one

Thanks, Wingshooter. I was hoping he or his mother wouldn’t have to live here for 6 months or something before he could fish. But I wouldn’t put it past Minnesota.

If a parent is a MN resident, his mom has MN license and so do you, he can fish and keep a limit of his own I believe. When I come to MN from out of state, my daughter(15) can fish with me, but any fish she catches must go towards MY daily limit. But if I were to buy her a license, then she could keep her limits as well. If I read the regs (need to be a scientist or a prof, or lawyer) correctly you are all good.
