When top water fishing for Pike, especially when using a buzz bait or a fast moving surface bait, watch for the wake building up behind your lure. Since most people loose their topwate bite due to the fact that they are suprised or caught off guard when the strike happens, be sure to watch for the wake. You will see a small wake building up anywhere from 4 inches to a foot behind your lure. When you see this you know a pike is on your tail. Just remember, when you see this do not slow down your retrieve. Keep the same pace. Until the strike happens. Often they wont strike until they are right on your boat, so have your finger ready on that release button to give them some line after you hook them. But at least if you watch for the wake, you can anticipate the strike. Pike strike hard, and strike fast. Feel the fish before setting the hook, but when you do set, set hard!
