Hawgers post(on another thread) caught me just as I was biting into a delicious??????, cold left over chicken sandwich.

It looks like it would taste outstanding: Here it is:

    “YUM…

I should tell you about my “Baked Northern Delux”

    Scale and clean the fish

Spray Pam Cooking Spray on a baking pan

Lightly black pepper the whole fish

Stuff the inside with StoveTop Stuffing (or make your own Thanksgiving turkey style)

Wrap the whole fish in bacon (you can use toothpics to secure the strips)

Bake at 375 till the bacon is good and brown

You are there… Good stuff… Call me when it is done!”

It makes my grilled.. butter, onion, garlic, cajun spiced northern seem tame. Something about combining the three tastes ,(bacon, fresh fish, and stuffing) , makes me a sure candidate for this recipe in the future. with Hawgers permission I think I will start a new recipes section on my guide site. I know we have done this before for walleye, but does anybody have any other unique recipes for other fish???? Lawrence

I can not tell you how many big ( 8 lb and such) northerns I threw back… before I was treated to this delight! Jim Rossel’s 70 year old wife (Shirley) had me bring her a dandy… that she proceeded to bake up like this…she had me, the wife & kids over to the best fish eating meal that I have had in a long time. Man-o-man that is heaven on a plate…. do try it. It cuts into chunks/steaks well through the backbone and looks great on a plate. I remember her trimmings were great too…home-made bread, peas with a white sauce… and fresh made cranberry sauce… gosh sakes man… I’m getting hungry!

Heres the best Walleye Recipe in the world:

Hook them, unhook them take a picture and then put them back in the water to be caught again.

    now that sounds delicious.

I got ya Nate…and I am hep to the cause. Thanks.

I do release lots of walleyes, but I do eat some too. I slice up lots of sunnies and crappies too. Now days, the wife and I have three kids that also eat fish. But, I still release fish…throw back all small fish and the big hawgs… and try to keep only what we’ll actually eat, as not to waste.

I have changed my ways too, over these past few years, from the time I just had to slice up the big ones too… I now try to releaase the big eyes and eat mostly two pounders. Real hard for me to slice up a four + lb walleye… any more.

I do not hunt, do not eat chicken/fowl, no pork, no beef steak or roast… so, eating fish is my kinda my spot in the food chain.

I’m still pretty much a meateater, up to 20 inches. I have one of my fishing buddies putting together his pickling recipes for redhorse and sheephead tenderloins, I’ll post it when I get it.

My (Native American) ancestors have been eating fish in this country for many hundreds of years, a long time before this was called the United States, and most of the elders still stress catch or hunt only what you can eat. Didn’t mean to make this a Debate on CPR, or a spearing or netting debate(figured I’d hit that one before it came up). Just a post to collect some delicious recipes for those of us that eat even an ocassional fish. Thanks again for a great recipe, Hawger. Lawrence

I eat fish too as I’m sure the vast majority on this site do. I’m also a conservationist. I’ve been throwing back big fish(and many others) for years for my own reasons but after reading Hawgers recipe one or two hawgs are definitely not going back this year. Maybe I can find one in southeast Mn? Yum.

    Hawger!

Could you throw the big ones back and accomplish the same dish by wrapping 2 fillets from smaller fish in the bacon? I’ve got some pike in the freezer and would like to try the recipe out!

    Lawrence,

Bring on those pickling recipes!!! I hear small gills pickle up real good too and I’d like to hit some of those overpopulated gill waters and give it a try!

Hey Hawger, Nate use to eat fish too untill he got very involved in tournament fishing. Now he puts em back to catch again like I do. [easy for me as I’ve never been a fish eater anyway]. Would like to see him start eating some again as I know he loves fish, especially cooked with Gary Roach batter. Well its Friday night so I best go undress my sweetheart [take the cover off my boat]. LOL Bill
