horse rating?

    i recently bought a 14′ jon and i was wondering what the max. horse rating was for this boat….just a general ball-park figure…anyone who has a 14′ jon would be really helpful if they would post and tell me their setup

    I have a 14 ft. v-bottom, but I think the ratings are different than john boats. But my is rated to a 20 h.p., and I only have a 15 on it.

    14 foot jon’s usually come with a 36 inch or 48 inch wide floor. Another factor is the transom height, 15 or 20 inches. Both factor into the max HP rating.

    I have a 14 foot jon with a 48 inch floor and 20 inch transom. This boat is rated for 40 HP. Personally, I would not put more than a 25 on it. Goes pretty good with an 8 HP!!

    there is a metal plate in the boat that shows what the max hp is for that boat if the plate is gone find the make and model number and call the dealer of the make

    yes i know about the plates but i havent looked because i dont have to boat in my posession yet…..i will look tomorrow when i go to pick it up
