    Hi All….

I had someone ask me about FTR rankings…. so to spill the beans…. (and spillakid2!!)…. stillapup and I came up with what we see as the guidlines to achieve “rank”…… just remember that on FTR rank has NO privledges!!… unless being called an OLD hand is a privledge!!……

Drown? Violence? What is this madness RiverDance? You’d lose out on the “biggest catch” at the Gathering! But I won’t go over 200! LOL! You know, you keep this up I’m gonna start thinking unkindly of you! I might even stoop to other insipid comments! Maybe I can get mnfish to invent some……………………..nah, I’ll just read the book myself………or I mean, write the book myself!

Hey, thanks for that bit of info. I was wondering why I was just listed as a visitor. I have now achieved “Rookie” status as this will be my 5th post. You and Kiddie2 have nothing to worry about as far as me challenging you two for most post.

Don’t worry Leo, this isn’t a contest. I just can’t get enough fishing, fishing talk, comraderie with “fishing friends”……………and on, and on, and on. So I’m here often and participating constantly. Maybe I can help someone, maybe someone can help me, maybe we can just have some fun! I like this place…………….it’s very genuine and I DO have an awful lot to learn. But don’t feel dwarfed just because I’m a “POST MONSTER”! You’re involvement is not any less significant than anyone elses. Without everyone else, this board wouldn’t work for any of us! So, for the sake of this forum, I’m glad you’re with us and are willing to give some input from time to time!

hehehe…. guess Leo was “worried” bout my comments of “drowning” you and did not want to make some kind of “hit” list….. he did not know I was just going to use you for bait….. cuz I figure someone with your kind of “rank” should make great catfish bait!! whatdoyathink pup? I can drag you on a live line with a circle hook while tossing “traps” for active fish….. should work!! lol……

hopefully everyone knows we are just a couple of kidders….. and we both love fishing…. therefore are active on the board… for all the reasons that the Pup elaborated on….

I think that there should be a board of review for each member.

You should have to sit down with the FTR staff and they will decide what title you deserve.

You could be a rookie one day and on waivers the next day.

If you want to be a River Rat, you have to have battle scars and be set adrift in the dark on an unfamiliar pool and have to find your way back. We could do a sort of Blair Fish Project thing…or Survivor.

If you make 200 posts but really don`t have much to say your title could be changed to Windbag or something like that.

Other options could be by fish species.

    Sucker

    Sheephead

    Bullhead

    Carp

Then you can climb the panfish ladder up to the game fish ladder.

And when you reach the top, you can pick which species you want to be.

We`ve got to get away from the numbers game and get to the meat of the matter.

Maybe this would be a good time to gather some user feedback…………….

    1. Should Beav’s post tick me off?

    2. Does anyone else think that “title” means jack?

    3. Does anyone else have a problem with it?

    4. Is there any good in the posts I make? Anywhere? Ever?

    5. Who would you rather have in the boat? Stillaposting or Beav.?

    6. What would you have me to do folks? I can’t please everyone (obviously) but I do try.

    7. Should we have peer reviews like you get at work? Oh yeah, that’s FUN!!!!! EeeYAHH!!!!!! Sign me up!!!!

    8. Should I go easy on this poor soul?

    9. Is that mustache real?

    10. Do I even need a #10?

Show some cooth Beav! We all know who you’re hammerin’ on but couldn’t you have just worked toward some true, fellow-man courtesy and addressed this privately? This isn’t a popularity contest and I really don’t understand what it is you’re fussing over? I give useful info……………..or is that the stuff you’re skipping over because you’re too smart to need it? And what’s wrong with a chuckle now and then? Too proud to share a “Funny Story” that just might make you sound human? I don’t understand your angle Beav and for the sake of everyone, seeings how you so tactfully decided to include everyone………………………would you mind explaining to the rest of them as well why they can’t smile today? Share a grin? Even say hello? And that they too should be judged by the “Beav-O-Meter” of Excellence? That’s [censored] Beav and I hope I’m not the only one with the nards to say so! One last thing……………..can’t let this slide…………..your last comment about “fools”…………….is in DIRECT hypocrosy to the method you chose to address this. If you need me to explain it, I’ll do it in private.

Ah yes, here we have a perfect example of how the typed word can be so easily misinterpretted….

Beav’s a very kind soul. I can guarantee he wasn’t hammering on anyone. He was just being funny I thought and he doesn’t do so at anyone’s expense. I think, more than anything, he was pointing out that the rankings are all absolutely meaningless to the point of being almost rediculous in a fun sorta way…..

And the peer review thing…. funny, but definitely tongue in cheek. If we did have a peer review Beav’s handle would be something like “theonlylivinghumancapableoftalkingnonstopduringan8hourfishingdayonasinglebreath”….. or something like that!

Your posts are humorous and often very helpful Stillakid, don’t stop or change for anyone. Not that anyone has asked you to. Humor is as important here as the fishing info exchanged and many would likely stop visiting if everything was completely dry and stale.

On behalf of everyone at FTR, especially Beaver, I’d like to retract that entire last post. James is right, I just didn’t see it. Beav, I’ll have to draw up some sort of award for you because you were able to make a horses petutie out of me twice in one post! That’s even better than Rivereyes!! Hope you can find it in your heart to forgive “a fool windbag”! Shake? And for all who’ve been keeping pace with “the windbag”, Rivereyes……………….can you pass that barbecue sauce? Crow’s kinda dry…………………..

Who says the only fireworks on the 4th are up in the sky?

James, my friend, thanks for stepping in and dumping some water on the embers of this.

For those of you who don`t know me, I like to spread some comical manure around here and there and MEANT NO HARM OR MEANT TO SINGLE OUT ANY INDIVIDUAL AND SUBJECT THEM TO RIDICULE.

Now the only thing that bothers me is James` remark about talking nonstopfor8hoursinaboat…..usually it`s telling him to get the net.

And the part about the fool referenced noone. It`s just an old Chinese proverb.

If any of you have spent any portion of the last year and a half on this site while I`ve been a visitor, rookie, wanna be, and staff writer, you know that when I have something serious or helpful to say it could be construed no other way.

I`ve written articles, answered questions and tried to help as much as possible.

I`ve also told some tales, spun some yarns and plain old BS`d my way around some topics. I am as harmless as an unloaded gun. When I feel that I have something important to say….you`ll know it.

    Again, I meant no harm.

BUT, DON`T YOU EVER CRITICIZE MY MOUSTACHE!!!!

    See, there I go again.

James, thanks for the words about the type-written word. That is the actual problem here.

    Here`s my ten rankings.

    1-carp

    2-redhorse

    3-sheepshead

    4-bullhead

    5-panfish

    6-bass

    7-northern

    8-sauger

    9-walleye

    and in the top spot…….

10-sitsinaboatfor8hoursandnevershutsupbutalwaysmanagestocatchthebiggestfish……AKA-River Rat-which is always the top slot.

Take me with a grain of salt or join my wifes support group…she`s tired of being the only member.

Happy 4th and good fishin` to all. Beav

I didn`t know that I could reply to myself, but I am.

My intentions were misinterpeted that is true. I also received a private mail from Stillakid letting me know that he was offeneded, and just what he thought of me.

Well, I retorted with a barrage that could sink a johnboat.

Then after James` post, things took a turn on the other end.

I especially liked the crow remarks, that was some funny stuff.

Anyway, I just got another private mail from “The Kid”. Tones have changed and he even took the time to apologize. That took large test!@@#@les. So, being the member in high standing that I am…and being on the review board, I here by decree that Stillakid should now be called “Manboy”. It takes a man to do what he just did.

But if he ever cuts on my moustache again, he`ll be on the trading block and have to give up his new title.

Stillakid aint a kid no mo.

Beaver, I don’t really want to add fuel to this whole thing but I have to challenge your rankings, I do not think you have paid the kind of respect due some of the fine species we find in the river. Where oh where do you put the catfish? And I have to question putting the bullhead so high. Having caught a few sheaphead and carp I must vigorously challenge their lowly position on your scale. To elevate the bullhead above them seems a terrible injustice. A novice poster should be no higher then a bullhead and having the opportunity to be classified as a sheaphead will certainly generate a flood of new postings.

I’d like to put in a request to the review board that “Manboy” be defined as “Jackass”? Or “Donkey Rear” if that term censors? It only seems fitting and proper. I’d also like to call Guiness to find out what the most crow ate in a day record is? Rivereyes, how long should I expect to hiccup feathers after a meal like this one? Call me at home, I’ll be under my rock!

I also think beaver’s rankings are turned upside down (except maybe for bullhead). carp are the #1 MOST POPULAR GAME FISH IN THE WORLD, and the only reason why they aren’t widely respected here is because they are misunderstood. Many people fish carp, like me, and they are the king of the river in my book. Also, what’s wrong with sheepshead? They put up a good fight and they taste as good as walleye. Try them some time. I don’t get it. The river has a mixed bag of species and that’s why I like it. Not trying to start an argument, I just think people should be more open minded.

My father played a trick on us the other day. He fried up what he said was walleye. We all ate like pigs and was full but begging for more. Here to find out it was sheephead. YUCK! I didn’t believe him do he showed me all the carcasses. Does that mean has much as I loved them that now I have to keep them? My dad said that keeping them on ice is the trick. I thought I would never put one of them rock heads in my live well. What am I gonna do?

one thing for sure, in my experience… EVERYTHING is MUCH better when put right on ICE…… I dont use a livewell… I just use an ICECHEST…. and I put my next fish meal on ice… and never freeze them… it makes a big dif…. My friends in the DNR are always telling me to eat sheepshead…. but I never have tried them…..

    Sheepers are very good “planked”!

    Planked Sheepshead;

Scale, gut, and gill the fish. Place on a 1/2 inch cedar plank that has been sprayed with Pam.

Put the planked fish in a baking dish so as to catch the drippings.

Sprinkle with Lemon Pepper and a pinch of salt (both sides and inside).

Use a butter knife to spread a thin coat Miracle Whip over the entire outside of the fish.

    Sprinkle with Paprica over top.

Bake at 400 degrees in a pre heated oven for 40 min.

Remove from oven and squeeze lemon over top while still hot.

Slide the fish off the plank into the garbage can and eat the board.

It will taste better than the Sheepshead!

Just kidding there, I ate a zillion of them when growing up in Texas where they are called Drum.
