    I read Steve Dezurik’s review on the site, but had some questions I was hoping he or someone else might be able to answer. I fish suspending jerkbaits including rogues for bass a lot, but have never used a spoonbill rogue. The bigger lipped jerks I’ve used (i.e. down deep husky jerk) don’t cast very well on account of the lip the tend to flip end over end and the line tangles in the hooks. I was wondering if this one casts any better or if anyone could reccomend another deep running(8 ft+ on a cast) suspending jerkbait that does. Thanks

    SuperFluke,

    Good question…Although I troll mostly with them, I have had decent success casting these baits with my bass gear but it took a little different type of cast. (You probably know what I am talking about with the deep husky jerks.) I have had to do a slower more methodical release when I cast them verses a quick hard snap that usually works well for short, fat bodied cranks. A nice steady cast seems to put this bait in the air like a lawn dart sort of speak. I can kind of compare casting this bait like casting with a fly rod. Although this is a extreme exageration, this gives you an idea on the slight pause at the back of your cast before the release to keep the rogue flying in a steady manner verses a wounded duck that I sometimes do with smaller cranks!!

    Hope this helps.

    Yes I know what you’re talking about with casting technique, but I still have problems when there’s too much wind, the #12 DDHuskyJerk I use are 1/2 oz and the rogue is 5/8 so I was wondering if that would help it to shoot a little better, or if it were more heavily weighted in the tail which I think would also help. Otherwise I was wondering if you’ve seen any brand of deep jerkbait that had a line tie on the nose of the bait instead of out on the lip, I know this would reduce max depth, but I think it would improve casting and would also run more horizontally which would be a plus for me. Or if you know of a deep diving floater that works better I wouldn’t be opposed to weighting it myself to get it to suspend. I have had better results adding suspend dots/strips to the tail of the DDHJ for casting, but I can’t add too much weight or it ruins the suspending. Any info you have on additional baits is appreciated, I figured you walleye anglers probably have tried a lot more deep diving stickbaits than most bass fisherman.

    SuperFluke,

    Take a look at some of these suspenders.

    Cotton Cordell makes;

    Suspending Ripplin Red Fin

    Suspending wally diver

    Suspending wally Minnow

    Some of Rebel’s suspenders;

    Suspending Rattlin Spoonbill Minnow

    Suspending Ghost minnow

    As well as all the Rogues. These may be worth checking out for shallow to deep jerk bait suspending models.

    Look at http://www.lurenet.com for some of these models.
