    erick,

I have not personally fished the head of the lake area lately. There should be fish concentrated in that area as we speak. The bay city flats should start to produce good numbers soon as well. If you have not been on the river lately your best bet is to just drive around and look for the other boats. The walleye fishing has really picked up in the last week with good numbers to show for our efforts Sunday. It seems everyone is getting a few here and there from the dam all the way down to the lake. The best presentation for me has been 3-waying with crawlers. Minnows have put fish in the boat also although the average size has been smaller for me on minnows. I ventured down in to the lake for the afternoon yesterday and found some good fish trolling #5 shad raps in 8′ of water or less. The lake fish have been running a bit bigger for average size all fish caught on the lake were between 19″ and 20″. We had good catches of 17″to 18″ fish Sunday on the river in the morning hrs.

    Good luck!

Was out Thursday 5/2. Fished the Bay City Flats area and pulled a couple fish in about an hour of trolling. They were there but not stacked in thick yet. 3.5 to 6 feet trolling #9 rap floaters.

We picked up a few fish on the minnesota side of the head of the lake pulling #7 shads. They are there just not in huge numbers yet. Dustin, where in the lake were you (minnesota or wisconsin side). and how fast are you trolling in the lake right now.

    labsrule,

I had fish on both sides. The fish were pretty spotty for the most part, we had to cover a lot of water to get the fish we did. Never got more than one fish in one certain location. Speed for me was 2.5mph-3mph seemed to be the best. The more untapped water I covered the more fish we caught. If I was to double back over a spot we never did pick up that second fish. I had 4 rods going off the boat so if we were to run into an active school of fish we would have hooked up on more than one rod. We also had a couple of Pike, no big ones but some scrappy little critters.

I was out Saturday, fishing Bay City flats and had one bite.

Oh, but what a bite it was.

Drifting in 5 feet of water and under the

boat, a “piggie” gobbled it down (hammered

gold spinner on a crawler harness). After

the third run, she snapped my line. My

largest fish ever was 8 1/2 pounds and I

can truely say that this one dwarfed it.

The day cost me a buck because my partner

caught a 17″ sauger, but I had the story of the

day of the one that got away.

Life lesson: Don’t have your drag set too tight,

you just might miss that fish of a lifetime. I would

have measured it and let it go anyway. I just feel

sick that she’s pulling around 3/4 oz bottom bouncer

in her mouth as it snapped my line above the snap swivel

so to speak. Oh Well … tight lines and loose drags.

Hoping the “numbers” pick up this weekend. I can hardly

    wait.

    Good luck to all.

We were just fishing down by the head of the lake and had 5 17 to 18″ walleyes in about 2 hours, we were useing pearl #5 raps and tail dancers.

The weather kind of shut us down.

I was downt o the river yesterday and it was tough. I caught everything but walleyes itseemed. I went to the hear of the lake and left after one swap cause i couldnt handle the boat to well with thehigh wave i incountered. I caught smallies and white bass casting shallow cranks. Sturgeon, cats saugers and sheepies jigging and 12 stinking 12 inch walleyes trolling 3 ways. The weather want to good so i didnt stick around to long.
