Fishing Club

We have had people ask about a fishing club and are thinking about starting one.

Has anyone ever heard or tried something like this?

It would be like every wednesday we meet at Bay Point Park at 4-5 fish for 2-3 hours and every week keep track of your weight, then at the end of the year you have a trophy for the top three teams. (something for the wife to explain where you’ve been every wednesday.)

At the beginning of the year everyone puts in like $20 for trophys and a little party at the end of the year.

Kinda like bowling leauge only fun.

If you would be intrested or know an easier way to make this work let us know.

    Thanks Rivertown Sports

    River Town Sports,

I recently joined Walleye Searchers (actually, I got inducted by doing a seminar there) and I am so very impressed with them and proud to be affiliated and a member. I do not know much about them… history wise, but know that they are managed by a great bunch of guys. And as a group, they are very in-to getting the jump on all new fishing tactics and lures. They do tournaments also. I suggest you contact members, Bill or Nate Cadwell (here on the EFN Forum), and I will P/M you the phone # of John Walter who is an “old-timer” in the organazation. You may be able to extend their club into your area and not have to “re-create the wheel” so to speak. LOL… Hawger

I am past president of The Little Falls Fishing League.. We use a length grid to establish points rather than pounds(works well for catch and release). Teams can then fish for any species they prefer. For example a N Pike from 20-23″=1Pt 23-26″=2Pts etc. Walleye from 14-16=1Pt 16=18″=2Pt etc. Bass from 13-15″=1PT etc for all fish species you want to list. We restrict some species that have liberal limits such as crappies or rock bass to a certian # per evening. We award one “rough fish point” per evening for the largest rough fish of the evening. We also award attendence points just for showing up. Great way to enjoy the evening and see what species or fishermen are “hot” from week to week. We go to a different lake/river each week. Would be willing to forward point grid and general rules from previous year upon request.

With just 2-3 hours for fishing a weekday fun tournament the participants would have to live fairly close to Red Wing to make it worth their time. I live in Rochester and if I am going to Red Wing I like to make it a whole day of fishing. The time to get the boat/tackle ready, drive, get bait, launch, return trip, cleanup, etc. would take more time than that spent fishing. If I lived in Red Wing I would join in.

I know they use to do something similar around my home town of benson willmar area for bass fishing but we met at different lakes around the area. We fished a couple of hours and we kept a running total of limits, weight, and biggest fish caught. We released them all after weigh in.

You can prefish all you like, But just to make sure you know this is not going to be a money making tourney.

This will be more like bragging rights. A bunch people that love fishing and this will make sure you get out atleast once a week.

Im going to start a new post for a sign up sheet. It will be two man teams and i need to know from everyone what day would be the best. And we will start this as soon as possible.

I will post a sheet at Rivertown Sports and once we get enough teams we will start..

    Thanks …

    Nate who is your partner?

My buddy and I would definitely be interested! Any night is a good night to go fishing. I can’t guarantee that we would be able to make every week due to our work schedule, but we wouldn’t miss too much. If one partner can’t make it, can he fish alone or get teamed with someone else? Great idea! If you need any help setting things up or researching some other clubs, let me know.
