only illegal if you get caught.
several years back a couple fellas perished when they overloaded their duckboat with some concrete debris from a demolition site. they were planning on dumping it in the lake for structure. but their duckboat capsized in freezing water. i dont recall if one or both of them drowned.

I have a hot spot in the metro that really put out some lunkers for me back in the day (prolly 9 years ago). It was always a good tip up spot back when I ice fished, so in the fall I threw a jig out there. Man were the big bass loaded. It felt like a big tree or brushpile down there. The coming winter I dropped a camera and saw an old bunk bed frame, a few large trees, a metal dryer appliance basket, and other odd debris. Whoever dropped all that stuff in the lake, thank you! It made one hell of a spot for trophy largemouths!!!

I think you’ll have to go through the red tape an then let us know.

I think it would be a heck of a hassle. You’ll likely have to have the DNR inspect your items and I’m sure there is a very short list of what is acceptable to put into a lake. Not to mention they will want GPS coordinates of where you are placing the items since they will drop down a camera and check them out later on I’m sure. Then of course all fish habitat permitted by the DNR is public knowledge, so they will likely publish that there is habitat there. It won’t be a private brush pile, that’s for sure!

Just make your brushpile in the middle of the night and then get the permit from the DNR about 20 years after the fact.
