Great looking site. Just signed up.

I’ve got too sick of sitting around in winter and am going to pursue hard water fishing this year. Got some gear on the Christmas list . I’m thinking of targeting the river (probably starting in the Pepin area). Some have said to watch out for springs but have no idea where to “watch out.” Can anyone give me a heads up? Feel free to PM or post, whatever works. I’ve heard the same on the Croix and may post there too.

Thanks and I hope to have some input here in the next few weeks to contribute!

If you have never fished threw the ice on the river I suggest going out with someone experienced. The springs are not the only thing to worry about. The current is in my opinion the biggest danger out there. The ice could be a foot thick today and 4 inches in the same spot a day or two later. As weather warms current picks up and changes. If you go out get some local info before heading out. You will see most guys don’t risk it on Pepin in the winter, but just keep watching there will be a few that will and trucks don’t float. Happens every year.

Thanks Bassmaster. I may be going with some guys but their experience there is limited. I should have said I’m going to be sticking it to more backwater areas and/or areas I am following behind others venturing out. I did hear that there can be lots of springs in the backwater areas even.

    Thanks
