Pool 2 Newbie – Where to Launch?

I am planning on making a maiden voyage out to Pool 2 over the next couple weeks. As a newbie to Pool 2, I am curious if there are recommendations on launch locations? I live in St. Paul and the Hidden Falls launch is about a mile away from my house, but I also want to make sure we launch somewhere we don’t need to do a ton of boat travel. Any recommendations?

Also, any tips for presentation would be great as well. Our plan is to pitch jigs and plastics as well as crankbaits around the wing-dams.

Being that hidden falls is that close for you it sounds like a good place to start. Lots of shoreline and the dam for pitching up that way.

Any of the landings on pool 2 are good to go this time of year.

Not much for wingdams around Hidden Falls, but plenty of other good areas/structure to fish. There are a couple of goofy ones downriver of 35E bridge on the Lilydale side. With the flow so low right now, I would target areas with rip rap shorelines-those areas typically have more current.

If you are specifically looking for wing dams, 494 launch is your best bet.

Lions Levee park also has a great landing. Lots of parking and back channel with dock to make unloading and loading much easier than most river landings

Find yourself an outside bend hole wherever the current is hitting some type of structure in the 6-15′ range and control drift through the area. Got a lot of fish doing that with plastics.
