I am new to river fishing and live close to pool 2 and pool 3 . I would love to get into some of the late summer early fall eyes on pool 2 but to be completly honest I am a little affraid of those wing dams. I know I am probably being a little to much on the safe side but I hear a lot of horror stories. Any advice you guys can give a river newbie?

Take someone along on a maiden voyage that has knowlege of the river and those wingies. You’ll learn quick. They can be prop and hull wreckers if you don’t play by river rules, but once you know what to look for and how to work around them you’ll be fine.

I have seen some people referance FTR wing dam 101… Where can this be found? As far as someone heading to the river with me next saturday will probably be the next chance I have to get out if anyone is willing to show me the ropes.

Just a thought. A guide can minimize your learning curve as well as show you techniques for fishing them. You obviously won’t learn everything in one day, but it can save you a huge amount of time. You have some great sticks in your area to chose from

Here is an IDO vid with James and Dustin Dog day wingdams

Get a map or GPS chip that shows the dams. It will be a huge help. Prime wingdam fishing is just around the corner. That video that James and Dustin did hits it right on the head for pitching live bait.
