Found some interesting plans to build islands in North Lake and Sturgeon Lake at the lower end of pool 3. Looks like they plan to be complete by the end of ’14.
I’ve always thought the bulk of Sturgeon was such a waste of potential. Looks like the intent here is to provide deeper channels with large current break areas to allow the sediment to settle. Less sediment should clear the water a bit which allows more light through and encourages plant and weed bed growth. If this works like they plan it to North and Sturgeon could turn into a paradise for not only our bait soaking brothers but likely for those looking to sink their tooth into a fresh juicy mallard breast each fall.
I know there’s some worry about how fast Pepin is filling up with siltation (e.g. bay city flats). This is likely one of the efforts along those lines to remove sediment before it hits the lake.

Anyone heard anything to confirm these plans?
