It’s around 40 miles to Red Wing and 137 to the Osakis area, then daily drives to the lakes we fish around there. Even though the Osakis cabin is right on the water at Miller’s Bay, I’d rather spend time searching for those cute little lakes in that area where there are fish and very little pressure. Keeps a good variety in life.

My drive is about 370 one way to Red Wing. Chicago area to the Red Wing area.

Needless to say it is not a weekly trip. But any time with James on the river or being at the Get-To-Gether is WELLLLLLLL worth the effort.

See you soon, teach a kid to fish, you will have a partner for life.

I live in the Chicago area also, about a 5 – 6 hour drive, but I get to stay as long as I want as I got a trailer at Camp Lacupolis. Well, maybe not that long as the wife usually has something to say about it.

My drive is 114 miles round trip from Rochester, through Lake City to pick up the boat, and on to Red Wing. Once I’m at the river my drive each day is about 45 feet from the trailer to the water. Not bad…. Some days I actually WALK from the trailer to the boat if its on the dock. But that’s just on days when I want a little exercise…..LOL

How come your route is 144 miles when Nates from Rochester to Lake City to pick up his boat is 33 miles and then another 15 to Red Wing? You must sure know alot of detours. Might have to follow you someday as maybe you are sneaking over to some hot fishing holes along the way that you aren’t telling us about. Come on James, wheres the honey holes at????? As for me, its around 48 to Red Wing, 33 to Lake City, 55 to Fairbault, 200 to Mille Lacs.

Actually, you’re right. I got that figure from my mileage log I keep for tax purposes. It was sitting here on my desk and I glanced over and threw that total out for that last post. That total actually included any “guide trip related” errands after leaving the house for the river and anything I did in the truck during my stay last time over. Its a cream puff drive…. I’d still do it even if I lived in Chicago like some of our visitors do…. but I’m darn glad I don’t.

You are avoiding the secret honey hole fishing spots along the way question, ummmm! lol Must of just slipped your mind hey! lol By the way, at the seminar you mentioned going to hi vis solar line. Have you tried some of that “pretty pink” Maxima line yet? Cabelas had a bunch of it in last Sat. when I was there.

It’s 200 miles from my house to my trailer near De Soto.

Wish I was as close to the river as I am to Lake Michigan.

    How’s that go?

    Old Chevy van $500

Gas to drive to the trailer (on pool 4) $5

30 steps from trailer to boat waiting at the dock – priceless

216 miles from my place to the ramp at Genoa. Just waiting for that new truck to come out that all you have to do is punch in the coordinates for your destination, hit the key, hit GO, and take my nap as I’m on my way. It’s coming!!!

My one way from Fayette, Iowa to Red Wing, MN is right at 150 miles. My normal spot on pool 9 at New Albin, IA is 71 miles one way – all adds up to lots of miles in a year.

Three blocks to the river and landing. That is great cuz that means more time on the water.

I’m right close to Lake Harriet in MPLS so I’m 1hr 15min to Red Wing, and 45 min to the Croix. 1.5 hrs to my favorite lake, Pepin. Any body know if the Wabasha marina is free of ice yet? How about West Newton on Pool 5? Is there a landing on the lake? Isn’t that Half Moon and isn’t there a Bass Camp there? Sorry I strayed from the original subject.

My house is about a mile from pool 2 – Mississippi…..(as the crow flies). There are a couple boat landings within a 5 mile drive. It’s a 45 mile drive from my driveway to Everts on pool 4.

I can get to the St. Croix in about 20- 25 minutes….depending on traffic.
