Unfortunately we don’t get many people posting about pool 6. There is one person whom I know of but hes a walleye fisherman but hopefully he will see this and if he knows anything about bass fishing on pool 6 he will post. On most of the pools from reports I have seen it seems like the rocks produce the smallmouth and the backwaters the large mouth. Good luck and let us know how you do. Thanks, Bill

ya we fished 5a this weekdnd and all of our fish came from rocks. im not really sure what it was , it looked like some kinda of dam that the water was too low so it was sticking out of the water about 4 or 5 feet it was an L shaped dam about 100 yards long and the bottom of the l maybe 25. but man there sure was alot of fish on it. we tried the backwaters for largemouth but got skunked. they were really muddy and it was tough. we had a few bites but nothing to the boat. ya hopefully that guy will respond. i realy would like to do good in this one too. thanks alot

Well I dont know what kind of fish you are looking for but here goes, the hot spot right now for walleyes is the trempleau refuge outlet into the mississippi just down from homer, you can see it from hwy 61, jointed cranks early in the morning and late evening, I have picked up alot of 23 to 29 inch fish there lately, Hope I am not giving it up for all of the tournement guys. and if your into the bass thing, I have picked up alot of nice smaillies just down from the 5a dam there is a harbor on the wisconsin side, just come out from there about 60 yards and go down steam, watch your depth finder and it will come up to about 3-4 feet, it is a big flat of rocks, between the two wingdams. they have been chasing baitfish like crazy there, caught them like sunfish on a hot summer day last Sunday. have fun, and let me know how you did, Hope I did not give away the money spots. for you other watchers of pool 6 I have not been on the water until this last week been busy with selling the house and stuff but will be hitting it hard the next couple of weekends. I will try to keeping everyone posted,

Thanks for the fishing info MiniGrub. Any and all info from 5A and pool 6 is very welcome as we don’t get much info from that area and yet it is also an important area of the Mississipi River. ALL areas of the river and ALL lakes are important areas as there are alot of fisherman who fish these areas. Again Thanks and keep posting. Thanks, Bill

Thanks for the tips. Been fishing around Winona area a lot more this year. Shorter drive for me wich means more time fishing. Still learning area and any tips help. Have had some very good days there this spring. Been fishing pools 4&5 for over 30 years but first year doing much on pool 6 down. Any tips on general area for sunfish. Wife likes to fish for them when she goes with. Don’t need exact spot just area to start looking. Thanks and good luck.

    Hello Art
Welcome to pool 6, sunfish, well, there is two spots that I have heard of, sam gordys slough and praire island culvert by the barge fleeting, if you want more specifics give me a pm and I can give you more detail, not much of a panfishermen just going by what I observed others doing. good luck, and give me a wave if you see me out, I run a green lund with a 50 merc, 90 percent of the time I have a 115 pound choaclate lab with me. Good Luck

Also I just got a hot phone tip, trolling in front of the river road about 6-10 feet from shore with a rattle trap, produce a nice stringer of walleyes tonight, firetiger, give it a try if your out and about

i got ahold of a book of maps and it says that there is two stump fields down there. iu was wondering what that ment. if they liked clear cut a bunch of crap or what and i was just wondering if it was a good spot. one is right down next to the dam and there is another one a little ways up stream. if ne one knows i figure it would be a good spot for large mouth but if ne one has fished it at all lemme know. it dosent say what depth of water it is in either. i would think it would be rather shallow but who knows.

I would have to look at a map but I am guessing the stup field near the dam would be Blackbird Slew. This area can be good in the winter but tough to get boat into during the summer months. There is also some deep water on the WI side of that piece that holds good crappies in the stumps. I’ll have to pull out my map to see where the other field is that you are seeing. As for bass, I have not fished that area much in quite a few years. With the water on the rise you just might find some decent fishing back there.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the info Minigrub. Was able to get out for a few hours on Sun. Worked the wing dams on the Wisconsin side below 5a and did decent for the short time I was out. 4 legal eyes, some small saugs, 3 smallmouth, and of course some sheepies. First time out with new trolling motor so was more interested in getting used to that. Almost all fish caught on nightcrawlers in less than 10 ft. Good luck.
