New to the area and just wanted to know if the ice was off the back waters yet. Thought about trying some early Northern fishing with chubs. Any info would be appreciated, Thanks

North Lake is still frozen, but the Vermillion is starting to open up, and pike + crappie fishing should begin to pick up. The coming cold snap might slow things up though…

Tuck, have you heard of anyone who did well on North lake this winter?I fished it a few times and it was dead.I don’t fish it like I used to because I haven’t done well there for quite a few years now.Mike

Down on Pool 6 things are sooooooooooo close.

If we had the least bit of wind we would be clear.

I did my part in trying to clear my local backwater of ice by falling through it, not real smart!

Pike fishing sounds so good after last year inability to reach the backwaters due to the flooding!

Dave, One place I’d be sure to check is real close to ya. Cold Springs, where it dumps into the main river next to the RR tracks. Just out from the tracks about 50yards is a weed bed. That area should produce some pike about now and then again this summer. Other than that, I might try to find some other hill side springs that dump into the river.
