With this being my first year fishing the river, and being absolutely hooked on it, I am curious on how most of you handle the invasive species. I do like to get my boat out to some local lakes every once in a while. Of course thorough inspection of boat, trailer, and car is always performed. DNR shows zebs can only live max 5 days in cold and humid conditions, so a week of my boat sitting in my garage should handle that. And bait lockers be emptied and cleaned, and anchor rope I suppose could hold stuff, how about any other ideas? Fishing in an effected system one can’t be too careful.

nhamm it helps to complete your profile to include the area you reside in.

To answer a question like the above it would differ greatly depending on the State you live in.

Sounds like you are doing a good job of checking over your boat. I would add keep a eye on where you are fishing and whats in those lakes and rivers. Places like Mille lacs are thick with zebs, spinny water fles and much more. You dont want to be bringing that stuff back to the river. Same with some of the local lakes that are full of milfoil. Might want to let the boat sit before putting it back in the river if you are concerned about what in a lake you have been on.

As far as not getting ticketed from the DNR make sure and pull the plug, clean the weeds off, drain all water and then save some money for the ticket. The way the laws are now its just a mater of time before getting one. More you use the boat better the chance.

Don’t forget to tilt your motor down before leaving the ramp. Not only for transporting water, but to avoid freezing.

Can anyone name a lake from the metro south that doesn’t have milfoil?
