Northern Action

Last night in upper Pool 4, Slab Hunter, Fish King, and I were out fishing, minding our own business, when Slab hooked into something big. At first we were thinking it was a big walleye but as time went on we resigned ourselves that it was a channel cat. However, I wasn’t convinced because of the way the line was moving in the water.

The fight raged on for about 10 minutes when the beast came to the surface…it was a huge Northern. Fish King grabbed the net and the fight to get the fish into the boat began. The adrenalin was flowing, along with some swear words. But then the creature was finally brought on board.

It was huge. It took Slab Hunter only a couple of minutes to get the fish out of the net and he proudly held up his prize.

As any good angler would do, Slab release the fish back into the wild to live and fight another day.

I am sad to report that there was one casualty. The net had to be cut to allow prompt extraction of the fish. The net will be sorely missed.

Please enjoy the attached photos of the event

You know…I’ve lived on and fished Pool 4 my entire life, both commercial and recreational, one thing remains constant; you never know what you’ll catch. We were targeting panfish, but they were not to be found. I now know why, Mr. Snotrocket was on patrol.!!
Thanks for the memories last night guys….

I was out for pannies with some guys one evening on our fave panfish lake… but strangely nobody was catching -anything-. I skipped the ultra
Ight gear and tossed a big sucker out under a cigar bobber and it disappeared in less that 5 minutes. Actually I cast, set my rod down and turned to get and light a cigarette. Before I could light up, my bobber was gone.

Pulled in a 4# Northern… and BLAM. The panfish action took off like a rocket. One of the guys even caught a 10-11″ bluegill.

I, of course, took credit for saving our outing by ridding he bay of this nasty predatorial menace.
