Pete and Shirley the “Catfish Queen” brought in 4 channels this morning. Pretty slow for them near the dam area. Gary picked up 10 down river. All of these came in on stink bait. The morning bite was not good, they started getting bit around 11am their normal quitting time. I’m sure they’ll be going out again around 4 today.
I had a battle last night with a flathead I think, fought him for 30 min then like a novice I tightened the drag 1 minute later I felt the rap let go.
Besides the big guy, I caught 2 small… real small walleyes, 1 big gill, 1 white bass and a bass near the Vermilion all within 30 minutes. That area seems to be loaded panfish right now.
This morning I saw a bunch of bait stacked by some shallow water. Moving into position I threw a popper without a reaction, went back and grabbed a muskie pole with a big blue and chrome spoon thinking there had to be a big northern somewhere in there. 1st cast I hooked a 40+”!!
I had him right on the waters edge! I took a good look at him and he looked at me then he decided he didn’t like what he saw. He took off and broke me off, talk about amateur hour!! But at least I got a good look at him!
I don’t think he would of fit in the bait tank!
Fishing is good if you’re open to the species that’s tugging.
