Pike on Pool 4 area

I have been getting into a little fly fishing for pike over the last year, one of my best lakes died out with the heat this summer so I am looking for some new spots to try. I know the mighty miss has some big gators in it, but it is a little large to take off and hit with how little ground I can cover in a day. Would anyone be willing to share a little general information on where a person should start or look? Do pike stay fairly shallow in the summer on the river? Thanks for any help that people are willing to offer.

On pool 2 in the spring i see them in the side channels and backwater areas. When june hits i dont see as many but im sure they are still around somewhere. Maybe near a lock and dam, or where there is higher oxygen levels, deeper holes or clearer water? Id say anywhere there is baitfish and slower moving water.

There is everything and anything in P4. They all get big very fast, and bite all the time from MY experience (except those finicky walleyes )

That being said, look for shallow backwater areas between 2-8 feet deep. Anywhere you see fish surfacing (even if its bass, crappies, etc.) pike are around. They also love the mouths and the areas around feeder streams

Personal best from P4 was a 42″. I have heard of guys on Pepin that have seen them well into the mid to upper 40″ range-folklore or not I don’t know (just like those “blue cats” BK!) Rip big streamers and poppers-you’ll catch them

Step #1 for finding big pike on Pool 4 this time of year is finding cooler water coming in from trout streams, feeder creeks and springs.

Once you find cooler water the pike will be there, often in numbers, but not always easy to catch. Start where the trout streams and feeders dump into the lake and go from there.

If you want pike and some good numbers,If you launch at wabasha you can zip across to indian slough(Just below the bridge on the wisconsin side) use caution going through the first part as its shallow right now. once past the L shaped dams you can go good tell you get back about 1/2 mile and you will see 4 dams(2 on each side) fish below them following the weed lines and enjoy!!

Head up into lake Pepin where the rush river dumps in. The colder water holds the suckers that the Norther love to eat. Cast spoons up into the river and even use ur bow mount and go in after them. Good luck
