A friend and I hit up Pepin this morning and had a ball with sauger. We found all of our fish in water between 16 and 20 feet deep and we pulled lindys with phelps floaters and BIG leeches.
One cat that weigh ed in at just over 8 pounds made a brief appearence while 2 walleyes also graced us but they came up short. We kept 4 fish of dinner tonight, but threw back several others.
Water isn’t bad really despite being high yet. The temps were bouncing around in the mid 60’s. Not a whole lot of debris and water clarity was just fine.
When we left a co did the license check thing but only reminded us about the invasives stuff. I think he’s about as fed up with the invasives BS as most of us are, based on some casual conversation and loose commentary. Nice guy, got a job to do and didn’t make things more than they needed to be.
Around 10:30 thew wind amped up and things got to be too much like work to controil the boat. With the bait gone we pulled it, stopped for a sandwich and then wandered back home. Ma’s going to have fish dinner so she;’s happy and having me back for chores makes her even happier. I couldn’t have had a better day to fish, at least until the real wind came to call.
