Where exactly should I launch out from on P2? I am near the 494 bridge.

That’s where the access is! If you get onto Hardman Avenue look for the turn onto Verderosa. There are two brown signs at the intersection, one says public access and the other one says compost site.
Have fun and take some crankbaits

April 30, 2012 at 6:52 pm #1064011Thanks! I should be leaving shortly, just wanted to know or have a idea of where to launch before I drive around. Pictures/ GoPro footage will follow later tonight, hope my trip won’t be in vain…
April 30, 2012 at 7:14 pm #1064020Another option. Lions Levee access is on your side of the river. Launch into a back channel rather than the main channel.

Kayaks dont need gas….
May 1, 2012 at 8:43 pm #1064503Sucked! Threw vision 110’s and 110+1’s, along with a DogX(Baits from MegaBass). Only one little guy missed the DogX, that was it! Although, I am not complaining, and I only saw 3 power boats all go down river, and one pontoon the whole 6hrs I was out. Great weather and overall a awesome night out! Good call on Lions Park!
May 1, 2012 at 8:47 pm #1064507I need to have an idea where to go. I am “lost” on the river. Can’t really figure out the structure of the river in my kayak, since I do not have a depth or map unit…
May 1, 2012 at 9:00 pm #1064518Smallies or walleye, I wasn’t too shallow was off the islands in the deep drop offs. Vision 110s are jerkbaits and have heard many people catch walleye on them, not to mention smallies love them! Anyway, I got some cool video of a deer running on the bank as I was heading in. I will try to get it up as soon as I can.
May 1, 2012 at 9:45 pm #1064536did you head out to the main channel or take the back channel south of the marina? Want to see no boats and have spots all to yourself try the back channel south of lions. It will take you about a mile down river and connect back up to the main channel.
May 1, 2012 at 9:53 pm #1064537That’ll be my next trip, I looked at the Navionics app after my trip yesterday and the areas around the islands near Lions Park were rather shallow, and even more so since the water is low.
May 1, 2012 at 10:34 pm #1064553if you want to fish in a canoe, kayak, or bath tub for that matter…i would head down to grey cloud and drop in betwwen mooers and grey cloud slough. you’ll find a much higher concentration of bass…along with some nice specks and a few walleye-saurus rex’s. fish the bottom side of the culvert and get out past the casting distance of shore anglers…no tuna boats either.

May 2, 2012 at 3:53 am #1064713Id also suggest grey cloud backwaters or pigs eye.. beetle spins and slip bobber and fathead have been working for me.
May 2, 2012 at 4:00 pm #1064881I plan to try and get out again today, after I get out of class. You guys say I should go to Grey Cloud?
May 2, 2012 at 5:26 pm #1064911Also, generally, how is the boating traffic there usually? I don’t want to be fighting waves and not fishing. Still getting the hang of steering and holding a spot while fishing… thanks for the info!
May 2, 2012 at 6:10 pm #1064924I would be surprised if you even see a boat. Grey cloud is tough to get into with a boat..especially this year. You can launch your kayak and be fishing in 5 minutes with no current and no boat traffic. The fishing can be very good back there too…better in high water…but sometimes just as good in normal conditions.

May 2, 2012 at 6:46 pm #1064933That 5 minutes must include time for getting it un strapped from the car.
May 2, 2012 at 6:53 pm #1064941LOL! Hoping the possible forecasted storms don’t roll in, looking at the radar, it should be good… fingers crossed.
May 3, 2012 at 1:45 am #1065077I hope you do better than I did….I stunk it up tonight…dark clouds pushed me back to the ramp early…where I got to chat with Rootski who was casting flies.

May 3, 2012 at 2:58 am #1065111Oh yeah, had a successful night tonight. I went out with J. Jordan, he caught 3-4 walleye, and 4-5 Smallies. I caught 1 walleye and a largemouth. We stayed out throughout the night, the storm system just past us to the south, what a awesome night and great learning experience. I had an awesome night! It was very fun and informative. And Suzuki… Yeah, we caught bass in P2!
May 3, 2012 at 1:31 pm #1065199Good fishing with you Cory. Can’t wait to get back out. Really think the bite is on the verge of taking off.

May 3, 2012 at 2:43 pm #1065239Everyone should fish with Jon at least once in their life.. I opted for the Croix last night and came home with two nice eaters.
May 3, 2012 at 10:59 pm #1065447That is a true statement Suzuki! It was fun, really had a great time. Learned a lot more about the river and how to fish a river more successfully, and what to look for. He’s a hilarious guy on top of it!

I was being sarcastic. Run away from Jon as fast as you can.
