I was wondering how many people from Wisconsin would be in favor or had thoughts about starting a Wisconsin chapter of Walleye searchers? What are your thoughts? I now Minnesota’s is well run but there is alot of guys in Wisconsin far from Rochester would might like this. I was thinking it might be based out of the Alma Area or Mondovi area. I also thought it would be kind of nice to have club tournaments against one another( Wisonsin vs. Minnesota). I know there is alot of good fisherman over here and would like to learn from also. Please give any ideas. Or is there a club like this that already exists?

    Thanks

If anyone knows of a club in the Hudson area or who would like to start one up I would be interested.

What happens at these meetings ? I see that you have speekers during you meetings but what is the purpose of these meetings? And is there any way these meetings could be closer to La Crosse area ? How far is Alma from Prairie du Chien ? Can I attend a meeting somtime in Rochester to see how these are formatted ?

I became a member of Walleye Searchers last year. I have had a very hard time getting to the meetings,(every minute around these folks has been great). I guess this has been a bad year for me as regards to illness, but I would feel a lot better about going up if I was riding or driving with someone else. I would like to get a shared ride thing going with a bunch of guys. It is the first Monday of each month. Lawrence

    fireflick,

why don’t you get a bunch of guys together to come to our next meeting and we can talk about this, I think it is a great idea. Here is a club flyer that we put out that hopefully will answer the questions anyone might have, feel free to give me a shout if anyone has any questions.

    Walleye Searchers of Minnesota

    Activities

    Monthly Meetings

Our club meets at 7 PM on the first Monday of the month at:

    Elks Lodge

    917 15 Av. SE

    Rochester, MN

Ring the bell by the door to be let in. At the meetings we plan activities and learn where the current “hot bite” is. Occasionally, we have guest speakers and the DNR gives us a yearly update on Pool 4 walleyes & sauger. Club members also give talks about various topics related to fishing. We openly share fishing knowledge, make new friends and promote fishing. You will also receive a monthly “Tacklebox” newsletter. There is usually a fishing trip in the works that one of the members is planning. Annual club dues are $25.

    Club Tournaments

There is no charge for club members to fish the eight club tournaments, although the non-boater pays the boater $20. The top three teams of each tournament receive plaques, plus we have year-end plaques for the best fishermen. Partner pairing is done by random selection and you do not need to own a boat. All tournaments start at 7:30 AM and end at 3:30 PM. Each team can weigh-in five walleye/saugar over 15″ at the end of the day. We usually have a cookout after most tournaments where we swap stories about the big ones that got away. At our tournaments you will learn how to improve your fishing skills, make friends and have fun. Tournament locations are decided at the meeting before each tournament so they will be close to where the fish are biting.

    Spring Seminar

We have either local or professional speakers put on a free public walleye catching seminar in March. The 1999 seminar was done with club speakers and drew 200 fishermen. The 2001 seminar was done by two of the top local guides and drew over 200 fishermen. The 2002 seminar will have two of the top local guides speaking on tricks to become a better bait and jig fisherman, High Water techniques, and early season tactics.

    Lake Pepin Open Tournament

The club sponsors a public tournament where teams compete for cash prizes. This year it will be held on April 27 and 28. The entry fee is $160 per team. This tournament is now a qualifying tournament for Cabela’s NAWA National Team Walleye Championship tournament.

    Bring A Friend

This tournament is to show nonmembers what club tournaments are like.

    Family Fun Day

Family fishing with emphasis on “fun” for the kids. There is a short tournament where we weigh all the fish (any species) a boat can catch. After the tournament we have a cookout.

If you Wisconsin guys decide to start a fishing club I would recommend looking at websites of other walleye clubs. The walleye central website http://www.walleyecentral.com/clubs.shtml has a national listing of many different clubs. Look at different club’s by-laws and what they do for activities to keep the membership at an acceptable level.

You could also talk to some of the long standing Walleye Searches club members to get ideas of things to do and more importantly, things NOT to do. If you live far from Rochester you can still join the Walleye Searchers club and fish our club tournaments — you don’t have to attend the meetings. Most of our tournaments are on pool 4 and are fun and educational. Our first tournament is in April so if your are thinking of joining try to do it soon.

See our website at http://www.walleyesearchers.com/ for more information.

    Fireflick,

That would be great. I used to go to the Roch. meetings but the 100+ mile round trip was too much on a week day. I would be glad to go to a meeting with you to discuss a club on this sind of the crick.

hey EC alma to prarie du chein is around 2 hours, depends how you make of it. quickest way would be to take the iowa side up throught lansing and then through minnesota to la crescent then cross over at winona. That would be your quickest bet.

Sure you can Nate. you can be the fist one to give us a seminar on “Fishing tactics in freezing, windy weather.” Hopefully we would just be an extension of your chapter. It would be fun to fish club tournaments with Minnesotans. Then we can see if the viking blood is in ya. lol. Always in the big game but never win.lol.

i would definately be interested in a wi club especially for the fact it might be closer to hudson stillwater area. Im still having trouble deciding if i can make the drive from hudson to rochester on a work night, it sure sounds like this would be the one to attend though.
