Can anyone lend some insight as to where to ice fish that area? I want to take my son down there tomorrow (1-21) I’ve always fished open water but have never fished the ice before. I plan on stopping River Valley when we get there. Any places I need to stay away from would be helpful too. Thanks in advance all

Stay off the ice on the upstream side of the dike road between Wabasha and Nelson. You’ll find fish in Pontoon Slough along the road though with plenty of ice. Wilcox Landing has some fish to be had and West Newton is always a good area but lots of smaller fish that need to be sorted thru if you want a meal. Just a short drive south of Alma you’ll see an area where plenty of people fish and they get some eaters there with consistency.

How did you end up doing? Another place I’ve tried are the finger lakes near Kellogg (Pioneer campground area). I like those for kids cuz it’s pretty shallow so not much “risk” other than your pride if you go through. I went there in December and it was fair. Lots of fish, but mostly small. But fun for kids. I haven’t been there recently, though, so no idea what it’s been like.
