here are some pics from the point at frontenac landing from saturday afternoon. the lake was froze all the way across and there were people who had walked on from maidon rock and were fishing the pine creek area. ice looked to be about 2 to 3 inches near shore but you couldnt have paid me to go out and check the thinkness more than a few yards of shore. ice north of the point looked horable with most of the ice being piles of frozen slush and broken up ice.
Anyone have any idea of how the ice is on Pepin, at Frontenac? Is it still in good enough shape to walk out on? I would like to plan a drive up this Saturday the 11th.
I was out on WI side yesterday about 10″ most of the way–i went over closer to MN channel and was about 7″ and i stopped there–seen others over more but not me!! good luck
That the report I didn’t want to hear. Questionable ice on the river makes me nervous. Even if I didn’t drowned, I’d probably blow away tomorrow. I think I’ll try and find a safer, more sheltered spot this weekend. Thanks for the info.
