Boga Grip instead of net?

I have been looking at these for a couple years now and just notice that Cabela’s now carry them, although perhaps a cheaper version than the stainless ones used in Ocean fishing. Does anybody on this site use one instead of a net? The concept seems great (vs landing by hand) although I don’t know if walleyes and bass have too fragile of a lip for this tool.

    L’eye,

I’ve got a Boga Grip (the original) that I use in conjunction with a net for ‘eyes and bass. It’s a high quality tool……spring loaded jaws, integral 30# weighing scale, and precision stainless steel construction. We net the fish, lip her with the Boga, remove the hook(s), get a weight/picture, and make the release. This is all done in a minute or two, without ever touching the fish (helps preserve the slime coat). The Boga also works great for those big northerns that like to twist up your landing net with your crankbait. We leave the net in the holder and lip the slimey thing at boatside, remove the hook(s), and release, without ever taking the pike out of the water. Don’t worry about any damage to the fish’s jaw. If used properly, the Boga puts less stress on a lip than the Bass Pro dudes do with their thumb/hand on TV.

I’ve seen the two Cabela’s products, which do not have the weighing feature. If you can afford it, go with the Boga.
