I had a buddy call me last night inquiring about something he witnessed on his shad raps. He keeps them in the boxes they originally come and then in a clear plastic plano box. This past weekend he went to put a couple on and they wouldn’t swim correctly. After trying 3 or 4 plugs he noticed that the lips on all these cranks were warped(sp). It appears that the plastic has been over heated and warped them. Has anyone ever experienced this?? I’ve never had this happen to mine and I store them in the very same manor. I asked him if he left his box out in the sun for extended periods of time. The plug box is out in the sun ocasionally when he is using it. Any suggestions??

To maybe help the lures that are okay, get away from any clear containers that magnify heat. The next idea is to check Normark’s product policies. If the lips aren’t supposed to do this, maybe you can claim faulty workmanship and have them replaced. But I would get a new storage system for sure! Even colored transparents build a LOT of heat.

A couple of years ago I made the mistake of leaving my Crank box out in the sun. I lost approx 30 brand new Shad Raps to the same problem (warped lips). Ever since , I’ve had to be very careful where the box sits. I keep it out of direct sun or prop the cover open to let heat out. I think the plastic used on the front lips has a very low melting point….I’ve tried heating up the lips on the gas stove and bending them straight with no success!!

These lures sell great in a garage sale , be sure to mark them “As Is” ….

I have two stacks of large plano boxes on the floor of my boat. On the top box of each stack I have taped white paper to the inside cover – without the paper the contents in the top boxes would get VERY HOT. The paper reflects the sun and keeps everything in the boxes at air temperature, even on those hot sunny days.

That sounds like an easy and cheap solution. Thanks.

Thanks Dave. I know what I’ll be doing tomorrow night. I’m sure my buddy will be doing the same.
