I have been accidently popping a few crappies at a spot I have been shore fishing for walleyes. So tonight after work I decided to target those crappies and get some dinner.
I was using a mini paddletail in chartreuse pepper and caught two decent crappies and a 2 lb walleye in the first 10 minutes. So I had two crappies croaking in a bucket for an hour after that and not another hit. I just wanted 2 more to make it worthwhile. Fortunately my shore fishing bud Bobby popped two more crappies and gave them to me just before I left. It was fun to bring home some fish for a change.

I was fishing @ the lilydale boat launch the other day and caught 2 crappie and 2 smallmouth with 1 smallmouth going a touch over 2 pounds. Fishing the exposed wingdams with 4 inch gulp alive emerald minnow. I was surprised to see them crappies hit that large of a bait.

I cringed a little when I saw the title! Anyway, how were they Dad? Taste wise? I know the river has cleaned up quite a bit since I was little, but have not eaten anything out of it for years.

I’m gonna be able to get out this wknd for a little while…might try to catch a couple specks myself…although I’m not sure how pitching a crappie jig into 30mph gusts is going to go…

They were yummy! It isn’t a pattern going there to set the world on fire; but the size is decent and they bite enough to keep you interested.
