We launch from the newer West Newton landing and made the trip to that Alam dam early this morning. It was a nice morning but that ended with the grass coming thru the dam. If you put anything in the water that had a hook on it, it was grass fouled in seconds. Even jig would foul when grass wrapping on the line would shinny down to where the jig was. We caught two small sauger and saw one other of the same size taken by another angler.
We changed tactics and moved down stream several miles where we were met with the same mess. The wind began to pick up so we switched to crappie gear and made for crappie cover….where we found grass once again, but not near as heavy. One crappie did come out to play but that was it.
The water temp was at 50.4 degrees the whole while we were there. The duck hunters were pounding away pretty good. The colors are still there for those with an eye for it and we saw more eagles today than we have in the recent past. We didn’t see any swans in the air, but there were a few on Weaver Bottoms. Its hard to call a trip with so many great things to see a flop, but disappointing is in order. Oh well, next week.
