What did you try? What depth? Any types of features you were fishing?

I’m no expert but I hear reports (from good sources) that eyes are caught at night on the Miss and St. Croix, contrary to popular belief.

Just wondering how you approached the night bite? Trolling? Shallow?

You certainly can catch walleyes after dark on the Mississip, during the winter months the dragging bite at night can be lights out. One factor the river has is the sediment load in the summer months, which reduces light intensity–thus does make daytime feeding and shallow feeding more favorable compared to clearer water conditions in which the ideal light intensity for feeding would be during hours of lessor light. The river is not the same thruout–lower pepin is much clearer than the upper portions-thus might have a better night bite. Regardless, give it a try-I am sure you will find some success!

As Ben said clarity is the key. Mille Lacs is nice and clear…the river not so much, shallow it up a bit and you may get ’em to go
