Was not to hot in my boat. Managed a dozen fish for the day. Chartruse seemed to be the color for the day.

I did get into a little action pitching to a wing dam in the evening. That was fun.

No big fish for me either on friday.
It was still a great day of fishing.

Was out Thursday and slow for us as well. Nothing at the Y, caught a dozen fish at the dam switching back and forth between sides. The fish we caught were nice 17-18″ fish but bites were few and far between. Purple Doo’s in the morning and Purple/Char ringy in the afternoon, needed to also have a splash of orange somewhere on your bait. 13-17′ seemed to be the best bet. Watch out for the carp, they were hungery.

My boat is still at the shop getting a new cover fitted and snap kit. I’m going with Dustin and a couple Pool 4 newbies.

Sounds like wet and windy for tomorrow. When you haven’t fished in close to 5 monthes you get a little itchy.

I know the company and the will be good.

    Mike,

any day you want to play hooky let me know. My boat, you bring the adult beverages.

Maybe today or tomorrow is the day they turn on…

Dustin should be able to put you on the fish. He was using a little different technic than me on friday but I dont want to give his secrets.

Steve, Sound like a deal. Looks like I might be out again the middle of next week.

Different technique, eh? Can’t wait to find out what it is. Hoping for at least one big girl to get some photos of and some eaters. You catch any walleye or just saugers?

My boat is finished and I have to go pick it up sometime and it just happens to be in Red Wing..

Would be easy just to plunk it in the river….

Sounds like the weather is going to be nice again. I’ll drop you a PM.

Dustin did get us on fish. We had a decent numbers day. I think we ended up at around 22 to 25 fish about 1/2 walleye and 1/2 sauger. Stayed until dark and were rewarded with a nice 4.5# eye at day’s end. Didn’t see anybody knocking them dead. Saw some caught on plastic, minnows, blade baits, and even saw somebody throwin’ cranks up to shore.

We were out on Sunday 4 of us Myself two guys from work and the boss. and the boss lost count at 62 walleyes and Suagers. plain Jig and minnow worked best but as soon as we would switch up sonars superdoos or what ever it would be a instant 5 fish. then nothing. so it was definatly a fun day on the water. oh yes we also caught 2 monster carp 2 sturgeons 8 white bass 3 sheephead and a nice Kitty Kat. oh and can’t forget the big Mud Puppy.
man what a fun day. Big walleye for the day was 4.2lbs

    Nate,
Saw you out there. Everytime we went by you were hauling in a fish! We got a hold of one of those nasty mud puppys. No one (not even the guide) wanted to touch that nasty thing. We hit four or five carp, 1 redhorse, sheepies and a surprising amount of white bass. We did not come close to 62 fish though. We had minnows. We should have tried them.

Yes in the past week the minnow Bite has been awesome and that is what I stuck with pretty much the whole day. Occasionaly trying something different but the minnows put most of the fish in the boat. the three guys in the back kept switching over to plastics sonars Mad Toms and everything you could think of and they all worked but not in a consitant manor. all though the big fish came on a black jig and a superdoo.
glad to hear you had a good day with dusty.
and I don’t blame you guys for not wanting to touch that mud puppie neither did any of us actually the guy in the back wanted me to take it off I said no way so he took out an extra long pair of pliers to take that thing off.

I think they resemble the creature that poppped out of John Hurt’s chest on the first “Alien” movie.

I call them “DOGGIES” (and many other 4-lettered words when they break my crankbaits)! Most others refer to them as “dogfish”. Here’s everything that you need to know…

Actually the only thing that you need to know is DON’T bring them in your boat.

Ok well maybe what we always called a mud puppie is not a mud puppie then what we caught was about 13″ black with the same tale as an eel pout but it had little 1-2″ legs as well and seemed to walk more than it swam
    any Ideas

I thought they were mud puppies. I’ve caught them in the ‘Croix in the Spring also. They are not dogfish. This little thing had legs on it. Weird..

the accepted common name for them IS mud puppies…. they are a large aquatic salamander, unusual in that they never leave the “larval” stage….

Rivereyes is right on. They are Mudpuppies. They have some at Como Zoo in St Paul. Says Mud Puppy right on the tank. Also claims the state record on them is 14oz. that is about 12.5 inches.

Yep, most people call ’em mud puppies. Next time you catch one you can refer to it by what a herpetologist would which would be a “hellbender”. Seriously, thats what their called!

Actually a Hellbender is a relative of the Mud Puppy. It is found in the eastern U.S. in small streams. A Hellbender gets a lot larger than a Mud Puppy. They grow up to about 2 feet long.

They are called Mud Puppies because it was once believed that they could bark. They are also called Water Dogs.
