Darn Nice Day on Pool 4

With Nicole attending a baby shower today I decided to take Dad and the Father-In-Law to pool 4 for a nice day on the water.

While the walleye weren’t as cooperative as I would like, the crappie were. So we took advantage. At the day end, we ended up with 8 species brought to hand (Walleye, Sauger, Crappie, Rock Bass, Sheepie, Small Mouth and Large Mouth). The Crappie were all around 11.25″-11.5″.

We topped it off with a fish fry of the Crappie. Can’t ask for much more than that. At least I’m told by Nicole and the Mother-In-Law that the old boys really enjoyed themselves.

Nice Wade! What were the crappies dining on for you?

Today it was black/white jigs with a medium fathead dragging jig presentation in 10′-11′ of water.

Very nice time had by all I see, and that fried crappie pic is making me very hungry, what kind of breading is that if you don’t mind me asking…looks better than what I’m using.

    Homemade.

    1. One sleeve saltine crackers.

    2. Three heaping spoonfuls of all purpose flour.

    3. Old Bay Seasoning (amount to taste/smell)

    4. Garlic Powder (amount to taste/smell)

I used about a 1/2 tablespoon of each Old Bay and Garlic Powder and it was pretty mild. I didn’t want to over salt it. I should have added more spices for taste. Another one I like to use a lot but didn’t is Tony Cracker’s Creole Seasoning.

Both. We picked up most of the 8 species on the Rip Rap between Read’s Landing and Lacopolis. Then we moved up to the river on the North End and worked out the shorelines up there.

Thanks for the breading recipe wade, I will try that one out, usually switch off every 6-9 months or so to keep it interesting.
