Not sure about Alma…but the Red Wing dam has really started to put out the fish. The bite is finally starting to get into full swing. The reports have changed from none or small fish to the majority of the fish being caught are “keepers”. Still not a lot of big fish showing up, but 15-20 inchers are common. One guy said he was amazed at the quality of the fish being caught. He said you might catch 25 fish and 20 of em are keepers. The area from the dam all the way down to the vermillion river is kicking out fish right now. Depths seem to be in that 18-25 foot range and the methods vary from boat to boat. Hair, plastics, minnows, sonars and some crankbaits are working. I think it’s about to bust wide open here in the next few days. The water temp is in the low 40’s now, so it’s just a matter of time before it’s in full swing here! If you can make it during the week, I recommend that. The weekends are getting to be extremely busy on the upper end of pool 4 right now. Good Luck.

I figured that red wing would be busy. How early do people start hitting the river? I will probably be going around there sometime over the weekend just have to beat the crowd of boats. Where is a good place to eat around there? Thanks for the information.

I will be fishing Red Wing tomorrow, glad to hear the fishing is picking up. Does anybody know if Bay Point launch is open?? If not, can somebody give me driving directions to Everts. Been there once but not sure if I can find it again.

    See you on the water…

I was out below Alma yesterday afternoon and did just ok. Got 3 keeper walleyes and no big fish.Talked to several boats at the landing, one had 9 saugers for 2 guys and another had a limit.Talked to a guy this morning who released a 7 lber. The perch bite has been real hot with rosie reds on a live bait rig. The water temp was around 39.

Put it this way, if they weather holds, I’ll be fishing Saturday in the rain just hoping a few less people will be there. It’s crazy from now til opener, but, the fishing will start to get good from the head of the lake to the dam, so hopefully the fisherman can start to spread out a little more.

The vermillion runs in just down from dam on the lock side or MN side.
