My Name is Ethan and my friend and I were kayaking down the Mississippi River. When we got just outside lock and dam #3 we got caught in a really bad rain storm. We made our way to Evert’s resort. Where we meet Jim Egelston he was so vary helpful, he gave a safe and dry place to hide from the storms. Then he let use work around the resort the next day to work for a room for the night. Jim then gave us a ride all the way around Lake Pepin. Jim Egelston will go out of his way to to make sure you are taken care of. Stop by Evert’s resort and fish the best fishing one Pool 4.

    Credit when credit is due.

I met these two kyakers on their “lay over” while they were working off the cabin.

So, how far down have you guys made it?

Wasn’t there a post earlier about some guys who ran out of gas and floated down to Evert’s and Jim let them borrow his truck to go get some more gas?

We stayed there in June, and I have no problems with Jim at all. He took a look at my old outboard that wouldn’t start, and while we did not get it running, I would say he went out of his way for me.

    Welcome to IDO BTW!

If this story is true, it puts the ratio of horror stories to positive stories at maybe 20:1 since Jim took over for Dean. I don’t like those odds.

Maybe “Ethan” lucked out … I think most of the guys who have been down there since Dean left would have kept paddling to Red Wing.

    “IF the story is true”

No matter who’s there, Dean’s ghost is going to haunt Everts. Some will see ghosts longer than others.

Jim is no Dean and never will be. But he tries to help out when he can…and sometimes too much.

That’s all I have to say about that.

Give the guy a break. You had a bad experience, you said your peace, now let it go. Life is too short.

He helped out some people in need. Great Job Jim

Amen to that… added to my bucket list.

Way to help out people in need Evert’s. What goes around comes around, eventually. Most people using IDO seem to be good hearted and forgiving so I imagine eventually applies here.

    And welcome to IDO Ethan

I’ll second that! I’ve spent a couple rainy days in there. They wouldn’t let me work off my tab, though.

I’m not on the positive side of the “new” Everts experience either, and if I’ve learned a thing or two in my 64 years, it’s to sometimes leave things as they are. Hard for me to do. Well put, BK! Keep your nets full.

This must be where you go after the river has “defeated” you.
