My family is staying in LaCrosse next week to try our luck on the river. I have never fished pool 8. What condition is the river in and any techniques or strategies to put some walleyes or saugers in the boat would be appreciated.

I was holding back trying to give the guys chasing Walleyes a chance to answer. This is the info I do have some knowledge of.

Pool 8 is shaping up nicely. The water level is now under 8ft and still dropping plus the flow has dropped some. Your timing should be great for rigging live bait on wing dams.

Looking at a Pool 8 map the wing dams I would start on are just South of the 7th st landing and Broken Arrow slough.
Trolling Broken Arrow slough would be a good bet for an eye or two also.

I hope this gets you started on your search for the eyes. I have been chasing the crappies and gills harder than the eyes this year.

    Welcome to IDO

Thanks Bret for the welcome and information. I’ll be sure to post how our fishing goes.

Returned from our trip yesterday afternoon. The walleye catching was nonexistent. We only boated one walleye at 18″ and one sauger. We caught the walleye and sauger trolling crankbaits just below the I90 bridge in front of a closing dam. We caught several large drum trolling crankbaits and casting swim baits. We live rigged wingdams but only managed catfish, small panfish, and drum. We caught a couple of pike casting jigs and swimbaits. Better luck to others.
